For those senior to me, EWR is terrible. For those junior EWR is amazing. [emoji6]

How hard is it to get into Guam via base swap? or are guys/gals out there pretty much wanting to stay?

Most people in Guam can get other 737 vacancies via vacancy bids except maybe Den and IAH captain right now. You can try a base trade but it's posted and anyone senior to you can bump you out of your trade.

The DC base is great. Second time living in the area (from prev mil days). Lived in Alexandria and now MD. You can find very affordable housing in nice neighborhoods within an hour of IAD. Great schools. Great shopping. Taxes are, believe it or not, relatively low, even in MD. The DC flying is great and a look at the Jr. Manning tables shows relatively low. Def worth doing research on. Good luck.

HOU?

I see a lot on Jr and Sr bases but not much on Houston. I'm a new hire and should start in Jan 16. I don't understand this world yet and I'm trying to figure out the best basing options for a commute from Omaha, NE. I'm thinking whatever aircraft gets me to ORD the quickest with EWR as base is my best option but if I have a choice and Houston in there would that be an easier commute until I can bid ORD?

Thoughts and comments appreciated.

Expect EWR or SFO with a little LAX and IAD thrown in. Don't be looking at ORD or IAH until you move up about 1000 numbers and DEN until you move up 2 to 3k.

Where do you live? I've been looking around that area and it's pretty pricey.

Edgewater, MD. There are some nice neighborhoods west of Dulles with great schools.

Taxes in Maryland low...with a marginal income tax rate approaching 8 percent (Anne Arundel County) I beg to differ. Virginia at 5.75 percent is no picnic either.

As an OMA commuter getting IAH to start with doesn't look like a bad deal. It looks like they are running 4 flights a day during the week right now to IAH. Hotels are cheap in IAH.....on the order of $55 a night total. Anything you can do to avoid a 2 leg commute helps. One nice thing about OMA going to IAH is that if you can't get on a direct flight, you can go west through DEN or east through ORD to get down there. Good options when one of the hubs is getting slammed by weather. I suppose you could even take SWA to Hobby if you were in a pinch. I believe there is some kind of shuttle service between HOU and IAH if you were to get in that situation.

Ultimately ORD will of course be the shorter commute time with more frequency between UAL, AAL, and SWA to Midway. Also, it looks like the last flight home to OMA from ORD right now is at 10:30 PM. That will save you some extra nights on the road when you get in late on that last day. Way down the road, DEN will be a good option also. I know one OMA commuter that switched from ORD to DEN several years ago and prefers that commute. Fewer RJs, SWA, and a one hour time advantage for getting to work.

Good luck.

It's a write off...

SFO? EWR? LAX? ORD?...

Compared to most bases, it's pretty good living.

Sorry for the bad intel. I hadn't looked at the staffing report and I was going off data from a 3rd party site.

Thanks and ridicule is welcomed

This such a stupid question that you prequalify it with that last sentence. Boy what a dweeb.

SFO also is not EWR, so that's a plus:D.

But EWR has clean crappers, SFO always some creepy guy peering over the stall at you.
ORD have those little plastic-ass-gaskets that go around seat.

What are the routes out of IAD 777's like? Taxes don't seem that high.
