Did ALPA negotiate the ability for us pilots to have the health insurance we want? I remember Obama saying if we want to keep our health insurance and our doctor we could do that.

I've been with Aetna here in Houston, TX for a long time. Got something in the mail from United last week saying we couldn't keep Aetna and we would have to switch to Blue Cross.

How can that be? What does ALPA have to say about this?

If you're in the core health plan, the standards are set by the UPA. Who administers it is not.

How soon after date of hire does health insurance kick in? How much a month does it cost, say for employee and spouse/dometic partner?

EXCELLENT POINT.

Also, if you're monthly budgeting is based on ANYTHING over min guaranty, YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG......

Day one.

The cost depends on your state of residence and selected plan.

Thanks! What about travel benefits for family? When do those begin?

Everything starts day one but it may take a few days for all the squares to get filled and for the electrons to propagate in the reservation system for travel benefits.

If you know somebody you don't like....sending them out as an unaccompanied traveler with your one week of seniority is probably a good way remove them from your life. ;)
