Where can we get epaulets for the leather jacket..? I'm assuming there is velcro involved.....I have an older Perrone as well...

Thankfully, although the uniform folks went for the jacket, they stayed one notch below total dork: you do not wear stripes on the dumb thing.

Tarpy's at LAX (Westchester) still has the best quality uniform for the money. The HKG tailors make some nice stuff too.

As far as shirts go, the Van Huesen Commander is the nicest quality out there. Really excellent collar. Plan on doubling the cost of the shirt getting it professionally tailored.

And unless that person is a comely lass, that's too close for comfort. I forget the color code, but they are very nice for half the price and comfortable. Check Amazon.

Agree and type this on your Amazon search to find them:

Haggar Men's eCLo Stria Expandable-Waist Plain-Front Dress Pant

Super comfortable and color match.

Two options on the jacket: Skip it and waste a ton of money on a leather jacket or spend about $150 and get a nice wool / cashmere blend top coat. You'll look more professional if you do. (Flame away gents!! :D:D:D) Plus, you won't look like a pilot when you dash into bars on your overnights while wearing it. Yes I have seen guys with their leather coats, with wings, in bars. Wow. Their sneakers really set off the ensemble.
Yup, Jos E Banks has the Executive Full Length Merino Wool Topcoat in Black and is on sale right now for $99.00. Had mine for over two years and love it. No crappy uniform blazer underneath necessary and free ball it with the SS shirts you purchased from elsewhere. Used it to hike down to David Bowies pad in Soho the other day to pay tribute in the lovely 29 degree weather.

Our uniforms an embarrassment and I refuse to wear any of it.

Welcome to United! Congrats and please wear your half wing.

That is your new (lowest bidder) uniform. Wear it with PRIDE!

Shirts you can get online, everyones are superior. However, your aftermarket shirts will not have the "vortex generator" collars and if you're not a careful eater, you'll lose little tidbits as they fly off. Plus, it will be harder to recognize you as a UA pilot from a distance if your collar lies flat. This may be an important consideration for you. You know, esprit de corps and all that.

The overcoat (raincoat) will go in an instant on eBay if its still in the plastic and will help offset the purchase of nicer shirts and slacks & coat.

"Embrace the suck"

I got a good laugh when you called the Uniform Shirts "Vortex Shirts". In all my years at United, I have never worn a shirt more prone to flip the collar up than the ones we have now.

This is time of year they have their sale. Great deal. Got four 3 years ago, two colors, two sizes. Picked the two that fit best and returned the other two at the local store. Navy blue and tan. Wonderful overcoats.

What sweater options are there? I've always liked the military-style ones with the shoulder patches, preferably without epaulets....

Dave Fitzgerald 01-14-2016 09:47 PM

No sweaters allowed!

However, I still have ym old UAL approved sweater (It's blue,) and may still be seen using it when I avoid wearing the uniform jacket without hat, in the winter, in the Pacific!

Could it be at all appropriate to partially blame the Uniform Committee for this sad state of affairs? Obviously the company will always want to try to go cheap, but what say does the UC have in the selection of the junk they issue us, and MH as the long-time vendor?

No doubt. Epaulets thankfully not allowed on the leather. M&H jacket not near quality of Perrone at same price and they're about identical.

Collars on M&H shirts suck donkey ass. They're too long to begin with and stick out all the time. Talk about dork factor.
