First reply is accurate, but I'd only recommend the LIRR if you're going to JFK. Since you'll only be going to LGA I'd bypass the LIRR and take the E train instead. Cheaper and not much longer to Jackson Heights/Woodside where you'll pick up the Q70. Free transfer to the bus.

Remember that we get $95 for crosstown pay per trip as well so it should cover some.

ETS Shuttle runs direct from EWR to LGA without a transfer. I can't recall the price but I want to say it was about $40.

Try UBER before a cab.
+1 on Uber, I'll never use a cab again.

You can make an 0600 LGA report with this option. Take the Newark Express from Terminal C at 0415, then you'll have to sit at the Port Authority for awhile with all the vagrants before the first Airporter rolls at 0515 (the later Newark Express won't get you there in time). You'll arrive at LGA at 0550.

Going the other way, the Airporter runs until 2330ish, but once downtown the Newark Express runs until 0145. Caution: busses run every 20 minutes before 0630 & after 2200.

I've taken the bus/train before & had mixed results--0045 pickup, 0145 drop at North Elizabeth Station, but many 2+ hour jaunts as well. This is by far the cheapest option if you're trying to keep costs down.

Setting aside the contract allowance for traffic enroute for a moment, if you are leaning towards taking a bus/Uber/cab into Manhattan keep in mind the potential for a 40+ minute wait to get through one of the tunnels. Once traffic gets cooking after 7(?) am or so it stays miserable until the late evening, a more predictable/reliable way to get into the city is NJ transit to Penn Station. Then take your preferred bus/Uber/cab/subway the rest of the way to LGA.
