Per Diem??

So I remember last year a big run around with the per diem reports. I paid for it from someone and then the company relented and ended up reimbursing us for it. Does anyone know the plan for this year? Is the company going to produce it? If so, does anyone know when? And if not, any clue where to obtain one?

Thanks!

What information does the per diem report provide?

It provides a month by month report of the per diem you received during the previous year and the IRS allowed per diem rate. You can deduct a portion of the difference between what was allowed by the IRS vs what you actually received. Turbo Tax will walk you through it.

It's not a huge difference domestically, but the IRS allowed rate for international cities is much higher than what the UPA provides for and can yield pretty significant deductions.

If you didn't deduct it last year HB, I would seriously consider trying to submit an amended return. It's a significant deduction.

Two years amended with the IRS allowed international rates using Rich Morrill's service netted $4000...it is significant.

so even with the new company provided reports you going to have him produce another report? I'm just curious how much better his report might be? I'm game but wonder if this service is not needed anymore? Thoughts?

Thanks for the heads up- I was just curious what specific info was provided on the report. I've written off my PD every year, although being at Express, the company didn't provide any such report- I always had to go to the IRS/DOT websites and figure the government rates for myself. It was always a very significant write-off, as our company per-diem was much lower. This was my first year at UAL, so I was curious what kind of deduction would result from the higher per-diem rates. Good to know about the online tool.
