Headset for B787
The Bose A20 is probably overkill for a quiet B787 cockpit. Any recommendations?
I will only consider a TSO approved headset. Will not be needing it for commuting. Just for use in the cockpit. Is a noise canceling model even necessary? |
If you are on the 787 you can probably afford the Bose. Go ahead and treat yourself while the rest of us suffer with a Telex. All in good fun.
|
Look into the Clarity Aloft. Super lightweight and a big fan base.
|
Telex 750 and done.
|
Or the Telex 850 (ANR), which I use in the narrowbody Airbus during climb and descent.

Really appreciate the replies.
I own the Bose A20. Great headset, and has become headset of choice for many of the 747 crews, but the 787 is much quieter. Sandpaper - have to wear something. Company provides a mini-tel, and we bring our own earpiece, so I would be with the "community" microphone! No thanks. Clarity aloft. Telex 750. Telex 850. Three choices so far. Keep them coming please. |
There's always the old standby Plantronics MS50, or the newer MS200.

Sorry, but who wants to wear any headset longer than takeoff to FL180?
|
Plantronics MS50 single ear. I use this up to cruise then speaker. Its what 99% do.
Have you ridden in the 787 up front. Its very quiet...I will repeat that. Its very quiet. It's not like the 737 or 320 or 757. I would say bose though so you can plug it into your iPad for movies during your 6-7 hour break |

Agree... Don't waste money or be anti social wearing the over ear headsets... Just pop out the ear piece and turn up the speakers and use the mic. ;)

Yes, and then sit over there with the speaker as loud as it will go, miss half the calls, and still not hear what I say. Sorry, my hearing is more important than being social. UFluyMike's for me from T/O to cruise in the bus.
And before you say I haven't flown with old guys, I've flown with pilots near retirement age - pilots who've been with AA for 30-plus years. Their hearing has been fine. So, protect your hearing with an A-20 in a modern widebody jet if it makes you feel better, but it is basically unnecessary in today's newest jets, such as the 787 the OP mentioned. For most people in one of today's jets - 737 excluded - the Telex 850 ANR is more than ample. |
I fly the 787 and use a Telex 850, although the 750 would be fine as well. Just depends on your personal preference.
It comes off in cruise and just use the speakers and hand mike. Quietest flight deck I've ever been in. TP |
I was wondering if I could get some help too.
After purchasing my brand new porsche I found that just after I turn the ignition it gets a touch loud. Any recommendations for hearing protection? Once I put it in drive it gets quiter. Looking to spend another $1000 any way possible. |

I use the Telex 850, but only because I came off the 737. It's overkill on the 787. Nobody seems to use anything above 18k. The -8's are extremely quiet at all speeds, the -9's have some noise from the recirc fan. I wouldn't buy a fancy headset because you'll barely wear it IMHO.

So 2026 still the same?

I like the ProFlight 2, but in-ear isn’t for everyone.
I’m also not on the 787, but the Proflights are good on the Citation X. |
