Jury Duty
So I just receive a notification to report for jury duty at the end of October.
Is there a SOP for notifying the company? Reading 21-N of the UPA, jury duty is considered a paid absence. Do I get removed for the entire 3 day trip or will the company deadhead me out to attend jury duty? Thanks. |
I have jury duty in a few weeks that fell on the last day of a 3 day trip and they dropped the entire 3 day. You are pay protected, but the fom says you have to provide documentation that you actually went. This is no problem and the court will ask if anyone needs proof of juror service for work. To have the trip dropped, you need to email the PSC with the dates of your jury service adn the trip that it conflicts with. It's [email protected] (not "PSC", but spell out the words, I didn't want to put the actual address on the internet for bots to find and spam) and they will take the trip off your schedule.

As a rule I usually don't notify the company until about 2-3 days prior to the event. Might I suggest that perhaps you could find yourself in a position where 2 closely spaced 4day trips could easily replace that 3day trip in your line. There are no restrictions on your ability to trade until you notify. Please remember that this is a negotiated benefit and you are entitled to be paid for ALL dropped trip due to jury duty. Pest |
Awesome advice. Thanks for the intel.
