Default MEC just screwed me out of $1500

So, several weeks ago the MEC made a bid deal of getting the company to pay up for pilots who picked up flying in vacation months, that had a low PTC. In fact a policy was set up to email payroll to get paid. For November I bid "low" since I have vacation and that would leave me the flexibility to pick up a turn on a day I choose and make up the cash- . Enter the MEC who can't decide what they want. According to a memo out today, the company will no longer pay up- at the demand of the union. I'm screwed for November since I bid low, based on the new practice. Wonder how many others are in the same boat. What a stupid thing to do. They should have waited at least until December so everyone- (other than union insiders) would know how to bid.

Yes....these are the mental midgets that are running our union.

They give you information on what to do, then suddenly insist that their advise makes you lose money (against the company's will).

The company wants to pay you more, but the union won't let them.

Now, you can work several hours for free to get above guarantee.

Genius.

(remember when they took away our ability to trip trade to prove a point??)

When the last e-mail on this subject came out I knew I'd be seeing the above post on here. Sorry it happened to you; especially when you stayed informed and followed ALPA's original advice on the matter and bid accordingly. Complete BS the way the MEC handled this since then. Four years since we signed the contract and this is happening now?

Default job posting

ALPO UPDATE
MEC Job announcement.

Based on recent activities the MEC is announcing the creation of a new position.. "Bum wiper advisor"..

A full time advisory position is available for someone who is a self starter, caring and can remember what he had for breakfast.

This individual will assist the MEC members in remembering which hand they wiped their bottoms with and which they eat with. Advice will also be provided as to " where to crap", and where to eat, incase some doubt arises.

The successful candidate will have a law degree, preferably trial experience and will be required to have a "Hillary for President" bumper sticker on their MEC provided limousine.

Starting pay will be double wide body captain pay, except if the individual needs to work overtime, they will have to work for free the first day.

Brought to you be geniuses like G Johnson the EWR captain rep who voted against the contract extension which wil now get us a second raise. They apparently make enough in their union gigs that they aren't concerned about our checks.

This may be an appropriate time to "uncheck" dues check off and go on maintenance. Clearly the leadership doesn't care about the pilots needs or desires, so losing the ability to vote won't matter.

While the timing could have been better, it's the company's fault too. They wouldn't agree to a process that would be codified in the contract. Wonder why?

And you didn't get screwed out of money, you are getting paid for what you work per your PBS award. If $$ is that important to you why didn't you just bid a high time line anyways? (That does goes back to the timing issue which I agree could have been handled better, but that also may not have been ALPA's decision-perhaps we asked for December 1 and the company said no)

So enjoy your time off and if the $$ is truly that necessary for you, then try to pick up a trip the exceeeds the difference between your MPG and PTC. In my case I have 7 days vacation next month and it's under a 2 hour spread so if I decide to work more I'll factor that in.

If the company won't codify it into an LOA then that should tell you all you need to know - enjoy your vacation.

If enough pilots did this the LOA would be negotiated.

They did agree to a process, and it was in place and working just fine. I used it to claw back money from June, It works just exactly like the middle seat deadhead pay. No Problem

So anything else is just supposition on your part. Neither of us know what the negotiating committee was demanding in addition to the current process, but logic tells us something was up. I have it on good authority that the MEC had a couple other "minor clean up items" they wanted included in the LOA as well- and There's the rub. These guys are like congressmen.

I know for certain ALPA did not ask for December. This came about due to a "cease and desist letter from ALPA attorneys".

The MEC got greedy and we are paying for it.
