Kirby

Found out that Scott Kirby was on my flight from DCA to ORD last night. Never came up front to say Hi. In my opinion, true Delta Bravo!!

Scooter30 01-11-2017 12:12 PM

Interesting, I just flew him from ORD to DEN and was surprised that he came up to the cockpit to chat. I thought he was a jumpseater at first. Young guy and pleasant at face value, we'll see soon enough what he's about.

I suppose if I had to pick, I'd prefer him to be competent at running things as opposed to putting down beers w/ the crew.

LOL! :p

Maybe you're not as important as you think you are, & maybe his job entails more than glad-handing the help.

Always remember, that's all we are to him. The help. Not coworkers.
And he doesn't even have time to be polite because he is too important.

I am OK with the management help not visiting the worker-bee help.

It doesn't matter to me, and sometimes I know that I have a DB in the back, and I would prefer not to meet him/her.

Once at band camp, I mean at a previous airline, I had Frank Lorenzo on the flight. Definitely didn't want him in the flight deck.

John Carr 01-11-2017 07:22 PM

J-Lo was notorious for doing the same.....

CousinEddie 01-11-2017 07:36 PM

I once deadheaded in uniform to DCA with ALPA President Duane Woerth on board. He didn't bother to say hello to any of the crew either. So there.

I thought I heard "back in the day" that having Lorenzo on board was an MEL no go.

As far as Worthless, we don't need to talk to him directly. His personal assistant of many years at ALPA is our SRVP of Flight Operations.

Airway 01-11-2017 10:07 PM

Eh, wouldn't really bother me, either. Some of you guys are way too sensitive.

If he does think of us as "the help", whether or not he stops by to chat isn't an indication of it.

I totally understand why you would want to post this, but be careful. I'm sure management is lurking on here and they will easily figure out who you are.

Just looking out! ;)

Mootang 01-13-2017 11:09 AM

I hear that after they finish their day at the office, management likes to troll the forums to see if we like them. Cause, you know, they care.

People have been fired at multiple airlines for things said on public forums like this one. And yes, United Airlines has people who's job is to search out negative social media content.

I don't care if they come visit me. They have bigger issues to worry about. Get some skin, bro.

You......might want to care....sarcasm aside. There is a famous case in SFO. A 757 Capt, (not me) after having a few in KOA, wrote a letter to the then CEO, Glenn. Management came after him and claimed mental instability. Grounded immediately and had to jump through hoops for months to get his pay check back.

If they want to come after you, they will find stuff. Myself, I had a management stooge, TK type, displace and fly with me. Not a pleasant experience. He basically argued every decision and glared at me from SFO all the way to JFK. It wasn't hard to figure this guy out. That was around 2010, during the contract talks.

So, Ya'll be careful out there! ;)

Oscar has spent a lot of time and money to make UA a place with positive employee morale. If management is lurking then they ought to recognize that somebody is undermining that effort. Customer Service 101: A customer complaint is positive feedback. When the customer stops complaining, you've lost the customer.

If they decide to come after one of us for something like this, then all that effort and cash Oscar spent was a complete waste and they may as well have left Jeff in charge.

ReadyRsv 01-15-2017 09:42 AM

Did none of you pay attention to the social media training? People all over America have been fired for saying stuff negative about their employers online. Believe it or not, I will say it again, there is a team of people who use software to scour the Internet and maintain the reputation of our company. Most large companies have this. If you post, "I was working flight XYZ today and let me tell u (insert employer) is a piece of crap. No wonder we're losing money and CEO is a moron" they WILL see that.

Not sure how this makes me thin skinned, I'll most likely move up a number when someone gets fired. PS doesn't the ALPAS code of ethics talk about demeaning your employer?

I would love for them to come up to the flightdeck......."No Bucks...No Buck Rogers"......or better yet "Show Me The Money!" 😂

Why?

To stroke a pilot's fragile ego to make him feel like he's master and commander? To give said pilot the opportunity to confront management about all that's wrong with the world (instead of letting ALPA yield their legal right to represent)? Maybe it's so they can play "I've got a secret " with the latest and juiciest tidbit direct from management?

For the OP to label a company officer "delta bravo" for not visiting the cockpit is weak, and to me, wreaks of an over-developed sense of self importance.

Personally, I'd prefer not to be bothered in my workspace while I'm preparing to do safety sensitive work. Plus, I suppose I'm just anti-social :)

Awax

Here is what he said....Do I need to draw you guys a picture?

And I agree with both of you. Who FREAKING cares if some management dude comes up and glad hands the flight deck. In fact I've got more important stuff to do.

I'm reacting to and commenting on the OP, (original thread poster) no one else. Sorry if it came off as otherwise.

Then you shouldn't be quoting me in post 21. That is where the confusion comes in.

I don't like it when mgmt comes up in preflight, means I have to put down the Iphone and hide the color weather charts.
