Bloomberg: United Airlines targeting major expansion at LAX

Jan. 27, 2017 5:44 PM ET|By: Carl Surran, SA News Editor
United Continental (NYSE:UAL) is targeting a major expansion at Los Angeles International Airport in an effort to reverse a slide that has left it behind its biggest rivals at the West Coast hub, Bloomberg reports.

UAL President Scott Kirby told pilots this month that the company needs more space and is studying plans to claim most or all of a future terminal, according to the report.

United, once the leader at LAX, has dropped to third place behind American (NASDAQ:AAL) and Delta (NYSE:DAL), which have been building international gateways in Los Angeles to compete with UAL’s lucrative hub in San Francisco.

Good thing we traded 4 mainline gates at LAX to AA for some crappy RJ ones in ORD. Smisek, the gift that keeps on giving.

Don't you worry about it. Old Glenn Tilton made plenty of money during those times.;);)

Number 2 city in the US. Previous management screwed up by shrinking there. I'd like to see us grow there. And yes, the airport setup stinks.

Lol. Too crowded! Better not add gates!

LAX is the largest single market for aviation on the globe(origination and destination)

Curios how many gates that we can use are plugged up by RJ's these days?

6 this am while 4 NB waiting on gates taxing around in circles...

Could start immediately by sh1t canning all the RJs and putting mainline jets at the gates. 320/guppy is an immediate 3x increase over an RJ per slot/gate.

Waited the other day for over an hour and it was all because of the RJ clown show in the lane. Ramp controller sounded like he was about to open the window and start shooting at them.
