Apologies To Those Trying To Update Their App

On reading the ongoing frustration of those trying to update their job application for pilot employment at UPS, I can only offer my profound apologies. It is an embarrassment. And is very reflective of what we deal with daily as IPA pilots with regards to the IT department.

-pay incorrect multiple times
-new RSA tokens
-Checkpoint rollout

Just to name a few. I'll use the Checkpoint rollout as a prime example to illustrate how (stupid?) the IT department works and how UPS continues to allow the computer circus to continue.

Checkpoint was a total....I mean TOTAL revamp of our ability to sign onto the UPS crew website (called CMS). It's another layer of security.

The IT department initially put out incorrect instructions on how to install this revolutionary new secure app (Checkpoint app) and Mate it to the UPS system. Apparently Initially posting a wrong IP address in that process.

Multiple crew members contacted the IT department directly only to be given a run around of who/what/when/where/why/how. A sort of catch as catch can hit or miss attempt to fix each crew members issues.

Not to mention this Checkpoint app (as said by one IT rep with one crewmember calling to ask for help), essentially gives ownership of each of your devices Checkpoint is installed on to UPS. As a result Checkpoint will only be installed on my company iPad.

Of course the EB of the IPA should have been on top of this right? Wrong......the EB had zero knowledge of this MAJOR IT change. A change that directly impacts each crewmember to electronically communicate with the company in any way.

The are potential issues in the future with VPN's as (China in particular) VPN's are facing being banned in some countries. So in the future with a ban of VPN, while in those countries, you are prevented from going onto CMS. This creates a multitude of problems for crew members while in those countries with a VPN ban. A simple example would be putting in your schedule bid. Can't do it without the ability to sign onto CMS!

Checkpoint was a MAJOR revision: Which UPS haphazardly rolled out with conflicting / incorrect instructions; gave no notice to the EB; and beyond the BG and the proactive pilots on there I wouldn't have even noticed Checkpoint migration on the list of subjects on signing onto CMS. UPS has created an electronic system of "notification" using mutlitple sources. Way too many sources to list here. But I'd say 15 or so? And you are responsible for all of the information despite the multiple sources. 15 is just a guess. It is probably less. But the real point is all of us walk around with a big question mark over our head as a result these multiple sources. Just a perpetual uneasy feeling of "what am I missing".

So the public embarrassment of the app process is no surprise regarding the crack IT department at UPS. They've got their best men on it. Not.

I mentioned the BG. I highly recommend new hires 1) not to post in their first year and 2) read the BG.

Why read and later engage? Although there's always that 1% of nitwits on any forum, the BG is an excellent information tool to stay in touch with what's going on outside of your fleet and little world. You will a much more informed IPA member as a result.

Speaking of nitwits, i recently contacted a probationary new hire regarding not "giving back" on this forum APC. He was a regular here .....until he got hired. Then not a peep. His response to me was that he was doing his part by flying the line.

There are new hires that come here to give their input of the application process and what life is like at UPS. Like the BG, I highly encourage that. The new hire just demonstrated the "I've got mine pull up the ladder" mentality that so many pilots have. All humble previously and now cocky. Nothing new.

What the embarrassment of the app process is mirrored in what IPA pilots deal with almost every day regarding IT. I encourage reading the BG when hired. And giving back here.

Totally agree!

To all ups wannabies - Profound apologies on behalf of all IPA pilots!
The online application and also the hogan test are a total embarrassment!

There are sooo many threads and comments here were people are simply trying to figure out how to apply, when to apply, how to update their flight times or contact info? Is the application even current? Why do some people pass and others fail a test when they answered all questions in the same manner? (comparing afterwards). Can a person retake a hogan? When? Is it 6 months? 12 months? More? How does one reapply for another hogan? When does an application expire? ...Does it ever expire? How do you update flight times online? What about contact info? When do you need to fill out a new app? Once in the pool, is there anything that can be done to speed up a class date? What about those who've been in the pool for a while, are they still in the pool? Is there a specific time frame when a poolie stops being a poolie? 6 months? 12 months? more? Etc.,etc., etc...

Just embarrassing. :(

We CAN do better! Just look at the many fantastic features our customers have when shipping a package! Give us just a tiny fraction of those resources.

Agree with everything you said except for the last few sentences (in bold). "EB of the IPA Should've been on top of..." implies they had previous knowledge of the switch to checkpoint. The union made it very clear they had no information whatsoever. They're kept in the dark.

And those: who, what, where, when, why, how questions don't stop once you get a class date, it's just the beginning. Read our internal forums and guys with 20+ years are still scratching their heads trying to figure this place out. No joke.

I probably miss stated what I wanted to say. The EB had no knowledge therefore couldn't be proactive on their guidance/reaction to the rollout. It was not the EB's fault as a result.

Then I agree with your entire post!

I would gladly deal with a wonky IT department to be able to move home to Louisville and wear a brown uniform. I would also take bad IT over bad MX any day. Lol

Then apply.
You'll be back here in a day or two asking if your app is actually in or not? ..and how you may cortect the phone phone number or mailing address in it... etc., etc..

Apps been in a while. Lol

If hiring is predicated on getting the rest of the JAL 767s, don't bother updating your application. It ain't happening.

Sorry, I was being facetious. Job fairs seem to be the best way of getting noticed. Some have had to attend several.

We have a VERY FRUSTRATING application process and maybe it's because they want potential newhires to know what they're getting into?

Wish you the very best!
