Thanks all; I am looking for any good gouge on the commute to SDF and ANC; if I have the choice I will pick anything in SDF as it sounds like the commute is easier, however, it seems like I might not have the choice with all the ANC placements (please let me know if I'm off--I was awarded the 3 Jan class)

Play around with this and see what your options are. There's flights to ANC from ONT so maybe that's an option... FedEx runs flights up out of OAK. SLC ANC in delta maybe? Guessing it will still be easier to do a DEN SDF ANC routing. Don't forget that a huge number of ANC guys do a 2 legger to get to work and it's not like you have to do it every week - twice a month maybe as a new guy, sometimes just once?

Your class could be all Miami awards, you just never know with these clowns but if there isn't a big systemwide bid in the next couple of months then it seems ANC SDF would be the awarded domiciles for your class. It might suck commuting up there but eventually you'll be able to get out - MD would make that easier...

I also chatted with a guy who told me he buys and uses miles for the majority of his commutes to/from ANC to NorCal, supplemented by that FX out of OAK I mentioned before. Granted he is probably midpoint on the whale FO list where he only has the 1 commute per month but it is still another tactic to keep in your pocket. FWIW, I'm using miles to get to SDF in a couple of weeks. Been using 2 or 3 mileage tix per year since I started; sometimes you find deals that cost almost no miles so why not?

Typically Denver and Dallas are full a lot more than other cities.

Greetings, maybe this has been covered already if anyone can help would greatly appreciated. I you are assigned the anchorage base what is the normal length of trips out anchorage and back, and if on reserve what is the length of time sitting reserve in anchorage.

As of now SWA still doesn't fly to ANC.

I was talking SDF and not ANC. You already shamed me in post #10 so I bowed out because I made a mistake.

Lines 1-40 on the whale are a mix of 6-14 day pairings with a bunch of 7/7 and 14/14. 40-74 start to see shorter pairings in the mix. E.g.: 7 off, 2 day, 7 off, 13 on (4day into a 9 day), but still some 7/7 stuff. Some are like 5 off, 7 on, 3 off, 7 on 8 off. Lines 75-123 kind of repeats this pattern for IRO's. 20 something lines of vacation/training/other. 20 something lines of reserve are either 7on/off or 14 on / off. A few are broken up a bit in to a smaller block and a larger one. Almost all the lines only require 1 or 2 commutes. A handful require three or just 2 if staying up there during a 2-3 day stretch of off days. Nothing horrendous like some of the base line trips you get in SDF.

MD is similar but I see a lot more clutter in some of the lines. One example: 4 off, 3.5 day trip, 2.5 off, 5 day (3day and a 2 day), 2 off, 3 day, 6 off, 5 day. Not a ton but more lines requiring 3 commutes, vast majority 2 commutes/ month.

Keep in mind that we are in peak scheduling season. With a little senority nothing looks bad up there at all. Most of it is Asia flying.

Shamed you? Hope you're joking as it certainly wasn't my intention..

Commuting to/from sdf is not going to be a problem for anyone.. Plenty of flights and airline choices. Anchorage is a totally different animal and it'll only be getting worst. That's why I was replying specifally about the Anchorage leg.
