My understanding is, for someone with a previous year's app on file, clicking "Apply Now" on the new requisition (posting) and logging into their upsjobs.com account will allow them to complete the 2018 application. It will retain much of the data entered from the previous year, but allow quals and other data to be updated.
If your friend is unable to that, it would be the first I've heard of that difficulty. In that case I'd say reapply with a new email address or you could drop a line to somebody in HR and ask them to help. My personal experience is they are willing to help a crewmember that comes to them looking for help on a friend's application.

I used the link from Boiler to look at the 2018 job posting and hit apply. The system prompted me to log in with my email and PW and now I saw that I have an App that is ON FILE from last year and an APP that is ACTIVE from this year. Hoping ACTIVE means one step closer to an interview.
Planning on attending a few job fairs this year and keep working on building my contacts.
Also I see that on this years app there is a question: "Tell us why you are applying for this job?" Hope I answered that one correctly...

I applied last year and my app still says 'active' and 'completed' when I log-in. I'm able to update it also. I have not taken the Hogan so perhaps that's why it's still allowing me to update my 2017 app. I don't know.
