UPS Hiring vs Pax (AA)
"Holy s^%t! AA is hiring 900 next year!" you say. Yes, that is a big number. Lets bust it down to percentages tho....the real tale of advancement. AA hires 900 next year with a total of 14500 pilots which is 6.2% of the group. UPS is due to hire 300 next year with a total of 2700......11%. UPS wins here. In the next two years AA will retire 1200 approx 8% of the group while UPS retires 132....approx 5% of the group.....So while 900 seems like a huge number....and it is.....your advancement over the next two years, and beyond, will be similar using the numbers we have today.

Excellent insight... I would love to know the actually growth numbers at AA. As in are they growing the airline (mainline only)? That’s not a slam either, just an honest question... so is their hiring boom heavy weighted on simple retirement numbers or a combination thereof.
We know for a fact that UPS is growing our fleet. And at some juncture I would think the new hires like myself are plotted into the matrix as additional pilots for “growth” vs “replacement”. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

We have a small pilot group, the fact is these percentages are all on par with the pax majors (hiring, retiring, etc). |

So would you apply right now?
What are the schedules, QOL life like for a new hire these days (yes I read the new hire thread, but didn't see any sample schedules).
Does UPS offer a decent work/life balance? Average days off per month? |

Does UPS offer a decent work/life balance? Average days off per month? SPEAKING of Alaska. The commute there is tough. SDF is great but some don’t like it. |
I’ve worked as many as 14 and as little as 2 days on Reserve. Commuting always complicated the calculus of everything. I’ve been on every fleet and I’d take anything we do over legacy pax flying. No disrespect meant to people pilots. I roll my eyes at the perception put out on here by some UPS pilots. It’s a great gig and you’d be lucky to get hired here.

Does UPS offer a decent work/life balance? Average days off per month? Just finishing up 7 weeks OFF, with 2 weeks of vacation. Its good when you get the time off. After 1-2 years on property (depending on actual longevity) nearly anyone should be able to have a minimum 4 weeks off with their 2 weeks of vacation, if bid properly that could be 8 weeks for the more senior. |
