Good to know. I figured there was a gap in there and hence why I asked about seniority number or percentage. Figure with upcoming retirement waves the YOS will come down a little.

Just remember the Gap is for new hires. The last 07 hire will wait 15-17 years to see the left seat. Currently it's 12-13 to upgrade. The 2014 guys will be the first to think about 10 upgrades. All of this assumes UPS stays about the same size. For those who point to the hiring and rumor network, I've got about 100 friends for you to talk to. Good luck.

Revised system bid has the new junior Capt on ANC MD11 and a 10/2005 doh.

So essentially another 13 months worth of hiring numbers to upgrade and then the upgrade time will decrease by 7 years roughly.

Are you saying in 13 months (Feb 2019) we will have upgraded all the willing 2005-07 FOs and reached the 2014 hires ? I would be surprised if that many continue to bypass.

Am I misinterpreting that remark ?

It looks like on 757 SDF domestic, junior captain is May 05, while on this past bid, junior 757 SDF domestic award was an 01 hire. More and more bypassers will be taking lower 48 upgrades while ANC will probably continue to go more junior.

How many did UPS hire between mid 05 until they stopped in 07? 600? Look at the retirement numbers over the next few years. When you throw in some of the bypass numbers you are talking about 15 year + upgrades until it drops for the 2014 class. I think 10 years is likely for the current new hires.

2005-226 on seniority list (last class hired in 2005 (Oct 25) and has most junior Captain award) // Assuming July 15 is flying Captain (effective date), was a 11 years+9 months to make Captain pay, so 12 year mark.
2006-160 on seniority list
2007-215 on seniority list
from Nov 5 2007 until June 23, 2014 no IPA pilot was hired.(just under 7 years)

Bypass always floats high for numerous reasons. Second projected bid of 2018 may have first 2006 Captains keeping theoretical 12-13 year upgrade, but easy to see 13-15 years for 2007 crews first opportunity to upgrade depending on 2019. Steady retirements affects Bypass curve in unpredictable manner going forward IMO.
