Yes. I was told it was for the 747 flights from Asia. I was told this by a van driver (not kidding) who said customs was standing in the way because they needed time to spool up their manpower. I ran it past our scope guys and they said no plans for 74 in phl yet.

Yup. Van drvr told me 747 in phl also...we will see who has the better intel. He was also the one that told me the ramp was coming originally...long ago. Track record pretty good so far.

You mean all this time its been the PHL van drivers that know the latest shizzle ?

I thought it was the SDF crew in the know.

What was I thinking ?

It isn't quite that simple anymore. The MIA sim was finally certified by the FAA for use this week. The requirements to add a simulator to a company list are much more stringent today than they were in 2007. Using the NASA sim at Moffett Field or the United sim in Denver as was done 10 years ago is not possible today. Therefore the available sims are limited to MIA and ANC. Sims that would match the required visual model, malfunctions, and lesson plan programming, and have available sim time, are nonexistent.

All available Boeing instructors that were willing to do the training have been contracted. Even though they are qualified 747 Boeing instructors, they are not qualified to do UPS 747 training. Unlike the initial training done in 2007, now the initial qual is AQP. FAA, AQPM etc. requires the Boeing instructors to complete the training footprint, observe the footprint, then be observed teaching the footprint. Only then are they qualified to instruct the qual syllabus.

Each 747 crew member trained and qualified as a line crew just increases the need for sim availability to train CQ. At some point in the near future the ANC sim will be saturated with CQ training. As such, there will likely be a need for three UPS 747 sims eventually.

But these are good problems to have...

Good intel. Thanks..

Just like the other airplane with an 8 in its designation. BTW, did they finally remove the parking mark on the back ramp in ANC or did it just fade away???

I've heard multiple 747 crewmembers say there are an increasing number of trips that begin and/or end with deadheads to SDF...

You guys all owe OOTSK an apology for mocking his original post, seems to me he was correct
UPS orders 14 747-8's and 4 767's. !

Excellent news for those currently at Brown and those wishing to come here. And most importantly for the US economy.
