I believe these airframes were previously acquired by UPS from JAL; Boeing is simply the selected vendor for the pax-to-freighter conversion.

Top Men! Have said the fourteen 747-8 (including the three airframes arriving this fall) and these three 767 P2F were not staffed by last December's bid which resulted in 301 vacancies to be filled by 2017 newhires.
In other words, those growth aircraft would drive additional hiring into 2018 and beyond. The 767 P2Fs weren't announced until two months ago.
Whale is currently staffed about 23 pilots/airframe and the 767 about 10 pilots/airframe.

I think the 300 number is more of a lack of current staffing due to OCV vacation elections, retirements and the 747-8 arriving in the near future. These new aircraft initially will be replacements for the new cockpit installations in current aircraft starting next year.

So if the 301 number does not cover the 3 747-8 delivered this year, there should be a bid out soon to move bodies over to the 74?
And how many are arriving in 2018? 5 I think. So that is 8 planes they need to man? The next bid should be for 90+ Captains on the 747 then.
But I do not know the scheduled delivery for 2018. I haven't seen one. They may be late in the year deliveries.
