This is a darn good job, though.

...but it ain't for everybody.
I second your reply, Boiler — Particularly the bolded part. A loss of 21 pilots, in my humble opinion, does not constitute a terrible work environment at UPS. Is the job perfect? Heck no... But It seems to me no one is saying that.

In today's market, if someone lived in Atlanta with no intention of ever leaving and Delta called while they were within their first couple of years at UPS, I really cannot blame them for jumping ship to a company that would allow them to live in base for the rest of their career. Same with someone residing in DFW, ORD, SEA; or someone just wanting to fly daytime domestic stuff that doesn’t mind being locked up in the bullpen for 4-6+ hours a day.

The decision to change companies for personal advantages should be weighted when evaluating UPS’s ability to retain pilots. I will agree that those who have left with no other reason to go other than, “the job was not a good fit for me” does not reflect well for the culture and operation (and perhaps maybe that person’s homework?)... which loops back around to the importance of coming here with a thorough understanding of the culture, schedules, IPA, FQS, etc. That’s what makes these forums helpful to potential new-hires: factual information about what someone can expect with a career at Brown.

Personally: I think It’s a pretty good job, but it’s definitely not perfect. For me though, the flying, pilots I work with, and IPA fit great for the lifestyle I want.

So i was recently placed into the pool. I have been told the internal recommendation only helps get you and interview, not to get out for a class. Anyone?

Back in the day a friend's intervention got me out of the pool. Don't know about now but I can't see how it would hurt.

Same for me.
Would guess depends on the approach they take and ability to break you out from the other swimmers. Good luck

They're probably sorry that the two of us didn't drown 😂

Bar and Grill is talking (Rumor of course) that ALL the Pilot Hiring People in HR have been relieved of duty.

Typical ups. A mangler screws up and probably gets promoted or assigned to another task.

The yearly window for submitting an app has just opened for me and I'm preparing to submit an updated app. I'm just under 3000TT hrs and I'll cross that threshold next month at my current 121 job. Most of my hours are military multi-engine, no conversion factor applied.

Question: should I submit the app with the hours I have now or wait until I cross 3K TT? In other words, is there any benefit to being over 3K TT in terms of getting your app seen?

Thanks y'all!

What? The yearly window has just opened up?? It’s been open the the whole year but typically they flush their system in January and you have to reapply. Why would the application window open up right now? Are you sure?

To answer your question - you should NEVER wait! If you’re qualified you should apply. Let them - not you - make the determination.
3K is very low for a civilian pilot but probably normal for mil flyer. Yes, even today with the ‘pilot shortage’ and all, they still get tons of applicants.

However, yes, you should always apply if you’re qualified.

I should clarify - my yearly window. I'd submitted an application last year and you can only update once a year. A few days ago that window opened for me to update my application.

Thanks for the feedback!
