Default Interviews, Classes and General Hiring 2018

Since I helped close the other thread...

Current knowns:

9 more a/c arriving on property this year, 38 total over the next 4 years: 28 747-800's, 10 767's (3 pax conversions), 3 were just announced last Friday.

Mandatory retirements continue their upward trend, peaking out in the mid to later 2020's. Many are punching out early but I don't have any statistics to offer.

Interviews continue. There has been a big shakeup/housecleaning in the hiring department. Frank H. has been brought out of retirement to participate in pilot hiring. Perhaps someone could post a quick summary on what interviewees need to know about him and what the shakeup is all about...?

UPS continues to attend job fairs. Recent hires still maintain this is an important step in landing an interview. The Hogan (personality assessment) continues, seems they might have eased the passing parameters based on a lack of recent complaints of guys busting it...

Classes: guys and gals penciled in at least into the fall schedule. People who attended job fairs report UPS saying they intend to train through Peak (Nov-Jan). Class of 12 started yesterday. Still seeing a mix of guys from all backgrounds with ACMI more heavily represented. New hire fleet and base assignments: ANC 74 is the dominant award with SDF stuff being a close second. A trickle of ONT and MIA assignments have popped up here and there.

170 have started so far this year. 300 something is what UPS suggested they want for 2018. Seniority list is just shy of 2800.

New system bid is needed and suspected to show up anytime. Vacancies from that will offer good insight to actual hiring needs for the rest of the year. Upgrade times too.

UPS is currently violating our contract with subcontracted flying due to their supposed inability to purchase additional aircraft. It goes to arbitration this month. Keep an eye on it, the outcome is likely to affect hiring to a certain degree.

Contract 2016 proves to hold its ground against other major carrier contracts, leading in some areas, tied for first in many others. I've been here 3 years, give or take some crappy catering experiences, and think it is a pretty good gig overall - I've had a good ride. Not impressed with my employer's behavior towards its employees though. YMMV.

Good luck to all interested,

FTFF

The 170 hired so far in 2018 is not accurate. It’s closer to 135. I was the 2nd oldest in 23 Oct 2017 class and as of 1 June published seniority list I have 137 below me. 13 started in Nov 2017.

Has anyone gotten a class date for Sept. yet? I know of a few for August.

Whatever, all I know is that as of 1 Jun according to IPA seniority list I had 137 below me and I started 23 Oct. 12 more this past Monday puts it at 149. There were 5 below me in class and 13 started in Nov. We must have a lot of people quit.
