UPS 2019 Hiring
#271
Indeed.
What you are actually trying to address is different perspective. A, ‘bubble,’ is created when you think your perspective is more correct or better. If you were more attentive you would have...well first you would have realized you wrote a post to whine about people whining. But had you (and the others who are suddenly labeling me as a negative blowhard) paid attention you would have noticed that in the hundreds and hundreds of posts over the past 4 years I’ve made (aka FTFF & FTv2), I’ve strongly championed this job at this company. I’ve consistently sold the positives, the reasons to come here, highlighted all the great, unique things Brown has to offer and I’ve stringently argued against the haters/negativity. More than anyone else on these threads. So if for just 1 post in response to someone asking for my opinion on the matter, I acknowledge that there are some dark undertones here, perhaps consider it as someone trying to offer potential new hires a balanced view and not a simple case of useless whining and empty negativity....
And fightanfight, while your little emotional life lesson was quaint in its simplicity (though lacking any point) and that there is an element of truth to your working man’s perspective of appreciating how lucky we are to have what we have / nothing matters if you’re getting paid well kind of thing, consider there are different perspectives out there: You are content to do your shift and go home; I would like to do more. You don’t want anything more than a paycheck; I want to learn new things, grow as an professional. Different perspectives. Neither is more right or wrong, just different.
The point when I said I’m second guessing my decision to come here was to convey the experience I’m having here after a few years in. As I said in that post: “probably the best job in the world......but! I thought it was good to let potential new hires know that not everyone is dazzled by the dollars, there are some troubling aspects to this place, and to consider whether or not this place is a good fit for them. I then elaborated in case some out there might relate to my perspective. You want to label me as some entitled snowflake whatever - fine, doubt you’re capable of any deeper analysis anyway . FWIW, I was hesitant to make that post.
Flyphisher, thanks for your post a few pages back.
Potential new hires, sorry for the thread drift. Hope at least some of this had value.

I actually had the same goal as you when I posted, provide a different perspective to answer some of the concerns I’ve been hearing from friends.
I really only want one thing - good people at UPS. Lots of them. I want this place to be a first choice airline for the highest quality candidates. I can’t say what airline I would recommend if they expressed a desire for truly meaningful employment, I just know that the best way to really make this place suck is to hate the people you work with. I don’t have much interaction with the company, I have a lot of interaction with other pilots.
So if you are considering UPS but worried that the company is going to hate you, don’t worry, they are going to feel the same way about you as any other faceless company. Good luck!
Ok, back in my bubble of inattentive emotional whining, a place where I am proudly incapable of deep analysis.

After 30 years I have to say it's not bad. Seniority has its privelages and being junior here may be worse than at other places although we seem to have made strides for that end of the spectrum in the last two contracts.
Still.... F. U., Pay me!
Do your trips, go home, be happy. If you are looking for something to live you, buy a dog.
If you're looking for personal advancement, you're in the wrong profession.
Be as good as you can be on your airframe, make your personal relationships the best you can so people are actually glad to see you coming in the crew room or the layover bar and enjoy life outside of ups. They really don't ask anything more of you than that.

Have to add one thing to support the folks that are upset at the company as an employer. A perfect example is how you are getting hired these days. We spent some amount of negotiating capital on getting new hires the right to bid equipment. UPS has sharpshot the contract by hiring those that they want to fly the big planes on one day, ones that they want to fly the little jiffy jets on the next. Yup, they got us on that one. Would have been better (fairer) for your seniority for the rest of your career to not have this two day system that gets around the intent of the contract. Those guys that got hired the day before you are now senior to you for upgrade and everything else even if they are 15 years younger.
That kind of sharpshooting goes on pretty regularly and often we joke that "yup, they got us on that one". Heck, sometimes we get them, but not too often. I think that level of disrespect for the contract doesn't happen as often at other places, if that's going to bother you don't come here. If you come, or are already here, you'll find a way to deal with it. Don't take it personally, it's just business.

Delta has 5x the pilots. FIVE TIMES. We have (guessing) 300-400 grievances a year. Delta (guessing) has 100-150.
Those are old numbers. I don’t know if it’s true today.
It’s all business so I don’t take it personal. But it’s very wrong.
UPS is doing this. Not the IPA.

I'm not defending the company, but what is happening is extremely common at other airlines. They'll run a class for just 1 fleet at a time. There are things that could and should be better here, but I'm of the strong opinion that the grass isnt greener. Zero chance I'd ever consider leaving for the pax world again.

I am also going to WAI to hopefully have a meet and greet with UPS (no plans to visit other booths). I signed up for all three days as I believe UPS is a very sought after job and will have a long line and do not want to risk not meeting with them if I am only signed up for a single day.
