Any Upstate New York Commuters??

I am a year from retiring from the military and trying to go to UPS. My wife and I are from upstate NY and we own a rental home up there we are looking to move back to. We would like to eventually move back there after retiring from the military. i was hoping to touch base with an upstate NY commuter who works for UPS for some QoL info. Any help would be apprecated. Thank you.

What airport? Look for direct flights from SDF to ??? The IPA has a jumpseaters finder to see if UPS flys to your nearest airport. UPS flys to BUF, but I don't know where you plan to live. Congrats on the retirement and thank you for your service.

Sorry. I hate to be that guy. It is amazing though how many people in our profession can’t spell “flies.”

Thank you for the reply. We would live in Old Forge NY in the adirondacks. Syracuse would be the closest airport
So if I was a commuter to SDF, what is the liklyhood of getting to SDF on a UPS bird from Syracuse or Albany as a new hire? I hear many domestic commuters often travel to other cities and pick up birds to fly into SDF.

Not a hundred percent sure what you're asking. Do you mean for the commute? We do reservations first come first serve starting 12 days out so your chances are as good as anyone's. If you mean for the layover, that might take a while.

I was just requesting the commute process. For example, if a pilot need to get to SDF on a UPS bird from a UPS serviced airport, how does that work?

Do most of your flights originate from SDF?
First come first serve?
Do you have a dedicated jump seat?
Can I commute on a commercial airliner to SDF, probably two stops?
Does UPS fly you to SDF commercially like FEDEX?
Can I lay on a pile of boxes in the back of the plane?

Do most of your flights originate from SDF? Yes.

First come first serve? Yes. With exceptions at least two seats on each flight will be available for jump seaters. 4 or 5 seats on most planes, 74 has more. You can book seats 12 days prior.

Do you have a dedicated jump seat? Jump seaters sit where they want with captain's permission. Those on Co. business are generally given their choice of seats.

Can I commute on a commercial airliner to SDF, probably two stops? Yes, space available with captain's permission.

Does UPS fly you to SDF commercially like FEDEX? Not an expert but from what I hear FX is generally more friendly for commuters and commercial tickets. If your trip starts or ends with a commercial ticket you can deviate to travel from/to your home. Restrictions apply.

Can I lay on a pile of boxes in the back of the plane?

Not so much.

Good luck
