Default Driving to ONT Base while on reserve

I live 1 hour and 45 minutes with no traffic away from Ontario airport. Is it possible to sit reserve at home with the bags packed and ready to go?

Ont is a 2 hr callout, as are all but SDF A, B and C. Is there ever no to 15 mins traffic?

I’ve done tons of Reserve in SDF and ANC but never ONT. in my experience you usually get a call earlier than the min call out and it’s not hard to foresee the call by checking the open time. With that said I’ve had maybe 10% of my call outs be minimum time call outs.

It’s not something you really want to push though. They pay a lot of money for us to be available.

Agreed, good points, Ray- check for Early Call option, watch but don't overtrust Radar and Open Time and preference when sensible.

I thought that the call out was without traffic?

We have guys that live in San Diego and Ventura that do reserve. Most guys that have problem with traffic bid A reserve which starts at 11PM so if you get called usually traffic is not a problem.

Reserve report times are what they are. No allowances given via the IPA contract.

except for the fact that a lot of road repairs occur after 11pm until 5am....I can only speak of going from the SFV to ONT..there will be unexpected slowdowns about 40% of the time.

definelty use that website sigalert to check your route prior to leaving the house....

Afternoons can be a real pain from the SFV to ONT....it will take 3+15 most days to do a 65 mile drive..to cover many of the SDF flights you will have to leave your home around 3pm but the call will not come until 4pm...

This is in the reserve section

"No crewmember will be disciplined if he fails to report within the scheduled call-out time due to circumstances beyond his control. "

To me, that says traffic.
