Default TPIC Preferred

I've noticed that the 1,000 TPIC qualification changed from required to preferred about a year ago. Has anyone gotten a call without it? I've been in the left seat of an A320 for a couple years now but still have less than 300 (don't get used much on reserve). I'm just curious if my chances are 0 or if a handful have been hired without it? Thanks for any info.

Most straight civilian time new hires seem to have quite a bit more than 1,000 TPIC. Are there exceptions? I’m sure, if you know the right people or have an exceptional life story, it’s possible. Your best bet remains to pile up TPIC and become an instructor, LCA, etc.

White, male and less than 1000 tpic you have no chance. It’s listed “preferred” to give wiggle room for targeted demographics. I’m in no way disparaging targeted demographics, but the reality is what it is.

If anything... that ‘could be’ a DETRIMENT to your application. If you’re Part 121, they’re gonna ask you why you’ve flown less than 12 hours a month (assuming you’ve been in the left set for 2 years).

Less than 12 hours a month? Are they hiring?

I had dinner with a white male new hire about 4 months ago who had just cracked the 1000 hour requirement before getting hired. He did have at least one internal and international time.

I was averaging 12 hours or less a month reserve here.... until this unofficial open time ban. Same equipment as you.

I’m in the same boat. I’ve been averaging less than five hours a month due to massive overstaffing. Almost zero open time. No fault of my own, now I’m considered not current on half my apps and there’s nothing that can be done about it.
Isn’t this industry great?!

Yeah but I know someone who is going to drive HR nuts when you crack 1K TPIC.

Yep. 1000 hours tpic is a de facto requirement in his case.
