I’ve also met a couple who were oblivious to the industry and jobs available, just having stumbled on the UPS FQS opportunity and took it.

Other guys buy into the sales pitch of being a “manager,” and “training captain” - they are quickly disillusioned and I know of two that have left after a year or so once reality became apparent. I would wager a lot of guys get charmed into the job by this path.

I assume a few see it as an easy shortcut to wide body captain pay and status (really a C scale comparatively) and don’t really care about undermining union members/the profession. There are a couple of them who walk around and think that their ship don’t stink. It’s probably a mix of all of these reasons and more for most guys. Telling that none of them ever come in here and post how awesome the job is...

Not sure why you think everything is an opinion. Post 37/38 are facts. There is more truth than not to most of the posts regarding FQS positions.

Google it and you will find posts about it back to 2006 when the site was new. Besides the point that posts do contain actual truth, if 99% of the posts say the same thing, well...

The UPS management job can be an easier sell to a retiring Air Force type. They buy in to the "you are too good to start at the bottom" and coming from the military, don't fully understand (i.e. dislike) the union system.

They honestly believe the hype and think they can make a difference.

Then they get here and the truth sets in, but frankly they have nothing to compare it to except active duty.

Pay scales, vacation policy, sick leave, advancements schemes, retirement, disciplinary policies, basic job description/responsibilities... that kind of info! We opine here that it sucks, they rearrange magazines, and make coffee. Get what I’m trying to say?

I get it.

Unfortunately, the answers are simple: To Be Determined

Pay scale: TBD
Vacation: TBD
Sick Leave: TBD
Advancements: Screw up, move up TBD
Retirement: TBD
Discipline: TBD

Here's the ironic thing. They do share a lot of the same work rules as the line pilot, but only when "on duty" with a union member because the line pilot has safer limits. But when flying with other management, or days off duty, then its ... TBD

So there are no real answer with specifics. It has varied greatly over the years.

I’ll give two examples (first hand knowledge). One of the vacation policy and another fo the work rules.

I started a trip mid week and flew with a manager. He was actually on vacation that week but was called to fly. He had to leave his family, in the middle of a family trip, to fly an uncovered company trip. He had to commercial back to base the day before and missed all but the first couple days of his family vacation.

As far as work rules, two, that’s right 2, managers flew an airplane from Narita back to SDF non stop.

Don’t managers only have 8 days off per pay period?
