PB, IPA retirement committee, stated once that every year there are tax advantages to UPS for the A plan contributions. To end the A plan would create a quagmire that no one could figure out. This was in relation to a buy out of the A plan. IDK, about a freeze or the above.

True, but Congress can also pass a law taxing all earnings in 401k and DC plans. You can’t really make a financial plan for what Congress might do.

Genuinely curious what details you can share. See state (government pension reforms in Germany, Finland,Britain etc, See self funded employer pension plans being addressed. What motivation would the US government have to assist a non bankrupt employer to drop obligations? These obligations benefit the government in higher tax revenue downstream. Employers already have relief from pension obligations in Chapter 11 format, UPS could go that route.
ERISA is pretty thick with protections, US government would have to undo alot of previous law and philosophy on protecting employees. Certainly would be tumultuous times IMO for this to be approached in the US.
Thx

A buddy over at purple thinks they got all of the remaining Lufthansa MD11s? I was hoping we’d get a few more but who knows..
Also, apparently they’ll be using all of their LT MDs for parts.. something about having to install HUD displays on those jets which they’re aren’t willing to pay for....

Rumor just a couple months ago was FDX got *all* the LH MDs...clearly that wasn’t the case.

Time will tell...still nice to have those 5 additional airframes coming in addition to the Ochos and 767s.

That would be odd considering they are parking some of their own in the desert right now. Stranger things have happened though.

After a quick glance, I don’t see the normal new hire class thread for March. Is there a planned new hire class for March?

FedEx MD-11 Fleet Operations Update (1-31-20):

"With leadership’s announcement of reduced flying hours, we’re temporarily parking a handful of MD-11s. The plan is to save airframe hours on the 11’s and delay heavy maintenance costs by pulling them out of the international system. MD-10s will continue flying right up until their planned retirement dates, using up remaining airframe hours domestically prior to parking each one. And in case you’re wondering, the final Lufthansa MD-11 purchase amounted to only 4 aircraft, which will be used for spare parts."

So FDX got four and UPS got at least five...that leaves what, three more Lufthansa MDs potentially available?
