Too new? Hmm, you’ve provided more useful, up-to-date information to many of our hopefuls than the majority of senior - to you - folks here. So no, absolutely not too new. Technically you need to be off probation but many great mentors begin helping other newbies when they’re still on probation themselves and thus they became natural mentors once they’re officially on the list.
So if you haven’t done it already I encourage you to reach out to Kevin W. (look for mentoring committee) and apply. He’ll give you the criteria to join. Basically you’ll be doing what you’re already doing but in an official capacity.

Any days lost commuting?
Very enlightening thread, thank you. I’m sure this has been asked/answered before but I haven’t found it; with all the commuting options at UPS, do most UPS commuters commute on the first duty day and last duty day of a trip? Is there often a non-duty day lost to travel on either side of a trip?

If you are talking about domestic trips with a shorter first duty day, lots of people commute to arrive with just a couple hours to spare. How easy this is depends on where you live and what day of the week your trip starts. I’m living in domicile now and gladly no longer deal with it.
The back end is all personal preference. You can usually commute out with a few hours or less on company iron or get a ride over to the terminal for offline jump seats. How easy this is again depends on where you live.

Maybe not so much Anchorage, but most others jump online right into the trip. Passenger airlines tend to cancel and rebook their people on later flights. With us, if something cancels they go to great lengths to get the stuff to Louisville in order for it to make the sort. Jumpseat are booked 12 days in advance and while I'm not sure they have this card or would want to play it much as a probationary pilot, we get a get out of jail free card for commuting issues. Not exactly free, you lose pay, but no discipline.

If you are commuting on a UPS jet from an outstation to a hub what is the parking like at the outstations? Are you allowed to park at the outstation? Is there a charge or time limit? Or does it just depend?
Is it pretty easy to jumpseat on FedEx to get to SDF?

I don’t know anything about using Fedex to get to one of our bases. I’m sure guys do it if our jumpseats are full.
I think our gateways vary. Some require parking passes, some don’t. My gateway doesn’t require a pass and there’s very few people that commute from there. There’s no time limit on parking and nobody ever asks questions. I generally fly 10-14 days trips so they’re used to me parking for long stretches. You’d just have to ask all the questions of the gateway you’d plan to commute from.

Which outstation (called gateway in brown speak) are you curious about? There’s plenty of parking at most gateways, a small few are problematic but we have workarounds. Never a bad idea to leave a little note on you car explaining your circumstances.
Problem with FedEx is getting back to UPS. Uber always reverts to the terminal = unusable. Lyft or a taxi. Once you get to UPS then you have to enter the matrix a can take up to 20 mins sometimes. Way easier just to catch a brown tail in.

What is the parking like in Denver? How is that commute to SDF?
If you are depositioning via a CML ticket and your plan is not to go back to one of your two listed addresses.....so you won't be using that ticket.....will that unused airfare go into your travel bank?
FTv3 - Thank you for taking so much time to explain the ins and outs....your posts have been very helpful.

Commute is super easy. To get a feel for ups specific flights check out:
Link to UPS jumpseat/flight finder
or use flightaware. There were some directs before COVID - perhaps a DEN commuter will chime in with specifics. I just texted a guy I know that commutes from there. I’ll post when I hear back.
CML tickets index values (62% of it anyway) will be deposited into your travel bank if you don’t use the company provided ticket or a UPS jumpseat to return to your domicile or home on record. If on reserve you pretty much have to take it / go as scheduled. CMLs in the middle of a trip fall into a bit of a grey area. Edit to add: So basically if you buy your own ticket, use miles, JS or nonrev you’ll get the credit. Also, you can’t game the system and use a JS on a route the company has bought you a ticket on.
