IPA Demographics, Growth & Attrition Reports

The number of pilots we will wind up with will be around 3,200. At least, that seems to be what most folks I’ve talked to think. Keep in mind the company plays its cards close to the vest, so even many managers don’t really know. UPS likes to run lean on manning and, as has been said, our training department currently can only handle 300 new hires per year at most. Throw in a decent number of guys switching fleets as the new 74 SDF domicile stands up and that could be reduced more. We will likely continue to struggle to grow by 50-100 bodies per year despite hiring more than twice that. Fortunately, your seniority will be increasing rapidly. Fleet growth and guys retiring well before 65 have put the company behind the 8 ball.

we added a new MD sim in SDF, but it’s just a replacement for the old one. The Anchorage sim is supposed to be moved to Louisville soon which will reduce capacity further while it’s going through that process. I’m not smart on the other fleets training capacity, but the MD is hurting at a time we are hemorrhaging to the 74.

Lots o' variables there though...when I was hired I was 10 years to 65% based on mandatory retirements alone but in a few months we'll have people activate as Captains prior to their 5th anniversary due to growth and retirements prior to age 65.
Caveat emptor, past performance not indicative of future results, etc etc.

We are also finalizing the use of a brand new 76 LDS sim in MIA. Agreement was supposed to be complete by now, but with UPS....
The sim is owned by Atlas (housed in Boeing building), one rumor is we are trying to buy it outright another is long term lease. Who knows.. what does seem very likely is that one way or another we will have use of it soon. Rumor is recurrents only for the time being, but things change quickly around here. We are also supposed to be using the 75/76 Combi sim, that hasn’t happened yet either. The company has their way of doing things, but they are actively looking for additional sim capacity.
