These charts were compiled by the IPA as of 1 Jan 2020, so they do not reflect the 28 IPA pilots hired 6-7 Jan or the 15 IPA pilots who are retiring in January.

As they are a snapshot taken 1 Jan 2020, they also do not reflect the junior CA award in the system is an Aug 15 hire (757 ONT) and the junior CA award in SDF is an Apr 15 hire (A300 SDF).

We are scheduled to take delivery of thirteen growth aircraft in 2020; five 747-8, six 767-300, and two recently announced MD11s previously operated by Lufthansa.

In 2021, we are scheduled to take delivery of eight factory new growth aircraft; six 747-8 and two 767-300.

In 2022, we are scheduled to take delivery of two factory new growth aircraft, two 747-8.

Assuming no additional aircraft acquisitions and no airframes parked in the next 2.5 years, UPS will have added 51 total airframes (five of which are leased aircraft) representing 21.5% growth in the UPS fleet since September 2017.

Early retirements will skew things, but we begin mandatory retiring triple digits in 2024 and that retirement wave lasts through 2036; from 2020 through 2029 we will mandatory retire more than 38% the current pilot group and through end of 2034 we will retire more than 62% the current pilot group.

This post is not intended to be a "rah rah we're awesome" thread, but rather to provide facts and information for people interested in becoming IPA members operating UPS aircraft.

Worth adding:

When I mention "early retirement", I mean prior to the mandatory retirement age of 65. The IPA contract defines normal retirement age as 60, where one can retire without an actuarial hit to their defined benefit pension (which arguably is driving many people to retire prior to 65), and "early retirement" between ages 55 and 60.

I sincerely hope you run for an EB position when the time comes to replace our current EB. I was hired shortly after you but always appreciated your no BS, fact driven posts.

I don’t think the IPA has put those numbers out because it will be heavily influenced by who we hire between now and then. Due to the high average age of our new hires, a significant number of our retirees in 2037 haven’t been hired yet.

Thanks for the explanation makes sense. Would it be safe to say someone in their early 30's will retire top 100?

There are currently 65 pilots on the seniority list under the age of 35, of which 36 are under the age of 34.
