Assuming you were ONT based, we have plenty of flights you could jumpseat. ONT is a junior domicile for a reason though. Lots of undesirable flying to commuters.

If I lived in Hawaii, I’d bid ANC over ONT in a heartbeat. I know of at least one guy who lives in HNL and one in Kona

Live where you want. Make the adjustments to your life style. Personally, I’ve been a commuter at my last two airlines (including UPS) for 21 years, never living in base. I live in FL and commute to SDF.
Living in Hawaii you can ride on company aircraft to ONT. I’ve flown those routes probably over a hundred times and have never seen a bird with every seat/Jumpseat filled. Also, you can reserve a seat up to 12 days in advance and we have multiple flights. The MD flys from HNL and KOA, the 747 from HNL, and the 767 from HNL stops in LIH and OGG.

All that being said, you’ll probably need a crash pad in Ontario, which are extremely hard to come by. You’ll also most likely need a crash pad car. So I think the actual commute won’t be difficult but the crash pad thing probably will be.

Once your hired post your questions on our union forum and see about crash pads, rooms to rent, used cars, etc. I won’t say more about our forum as we must use our real names there. But there’s a lot of great info.

Good luck!

Most of the Hawaii commuters fly out of ANC. Longer blocks of work, easier crashpad situation and Alaska goes between HNL and ANC in addition to company options through ONT.

We also have flights from sdf-hnl so you could definitely do it. But that’s a long time sitting in an airplane commuting.
