Go back and look at the original post and see what is now struck through, then consider my statement in context of that struck-through text.

Having a family member who was one of the Pilot's who fell into that particular UPS furlough.....Without your referencing the "struck quote" from the OP, took it as an uninformed "blanket statement".

Seriuosly ? Did someone not understand that UPS did not furlough due to the 9/11 events ? Yes, technically the 2010 furlough was "post 9/11" chronologically, but it was not as a result of the airline contraction after the terrorist attack. UPS furlough was entirely unrelated to 9/11.

I suppose the accurate statement would be that UPS did not furlough as a direct result of 9/11, although they did threaten to furlough shortly after 9/11, it never transpired. Later when the economy went into recession in 2008, there was a furlough in 2010 due that and to other conditions (age 65, parking 3 man jets, etc).

Should we consider the thousands that will be furloughed from the passenger airlines in 2020-21 "post 9/11" ? I'm guessing these will be referred to as post-pandemic .. even though still chronologically "post 9/11" ...

Clear as mud ? I think I confused myself ... and I was even furloughed post 9/11, just not by UPS ! That threat came MUCH later

Disagree - ups furloughed for one reason only - FedEx’s 4a2b clause. When Fedex imposed a mandatory pay-cut on their pilots (in accordance with their contract, clause 4a2b) ups salivated and wanted the very same provision (of course, ours would be permanent!). The union told them to pound sand.

All of our cost saving measures through the MOU were pointless and we knew it. Most of us participated to prevent furloughs but deep inside we knew ups would furlough unless they got a similar to fdx pay-cut provision in our contract.

Disagree - ups furloughed for one reason only - FedEx’s 4a2b ’pay-cut clause envy’. When Fedex imposed a mandatory pay-cut on their pilots - in accordance with their contract, aka clause 4a2b - ups salivated and wanted the very same provision. Of course, they’d make ours permanent! The union told them to pound sand.

Agree ... that's why I included ,,, ETC.

Actually, in simple terms, UPS furloughed for on one reason ... BECAUSE THEY COULD ...

My point was that it had nothing to do with 9/11 events , since one of the responses seemed disturbed that technically UPS had furloughed post 9/11

Agree. Let’s hope the country recovers quickly or we’ll end up with a ‘post-coronial furlough’ thread... :-/

You are just a continuous ray of sunshine aren’t you? Geeeeeez.

Much of the useful information you have provided over time is being completely washed out by this line of posting.

You’re wasting your time. C2078 is the Baghdad Bob of Big Brown. God forbid someone, anyone, uses word of caution - and that’s all I did - he’ll unleash on him or her because BB knows better and that’s all that matters.
Tired of the sanctimonious lectures on how our views are ‘nonsense’ (from another post of his) because ... well, he’s right and we’re wrong.

For the record, I’m not sure our views differ that much to begin with. I AM content here and have said so many times. I enjoy our union, I volunteer at many events and I help out newhires every chance I get.

I don’t think being cautiously optimistic, as opposed to unreservedly naive, is a bad thing.

As you know, many of us have been lied to before so I prefer to trust but verify. If someone disagrees I welcome opinions and often will debate. (Heck, I actually thought the title of this thread had the word debate in it?) If we debate maybe I’ll change their mind or maybe they’ll change mine. ..or maybe we’ll agree to disagree?
I’m not interested however in being berated by know-it-alls for not agreeing with them on absolutely everything.
