Company is shifting liability to crews, nothing more. When the lawsuits start to arrive UPS will say, ‘we mandated it in many cases, strongly encouraged it in all others and provided masks around the entire system. The pilot’s chose (intentionally against the policy) not to wear them. Not our fault.’ They’ll could also try to use it as a way to weasel out of Covid-LOA pay as well : “we told you to wear a mask, found out during contract tracing interviews that people said you weren’t wearing yours. Sorry.” Might not be in our best interest to play cowboy with this, just IMHO.

Just wear the fukin mask...All you're saying is I care and respect you enough that I maybe a carrier and don't want to give it to you or spread it. Dont understand how pity we can be to use jumpseat or other tools to wage unnecessary wars against each other. I think we all have enough problems in our lives not to want more stress. Just wear the ****ing thing out of care and respect for others.

It’s not that hard folks, we are in this together. Lucky to be employed, I really appreciate people taking the minimal effort to wear a mask. Aren’t we supposed to love our neighbor? Wearing a mask helps keep your brethren, their families, and their communities healthy, and that’s cool, rule # 1, don’t be a jerk right?
Seriously though, well said. Our passenger airline colleagues are wondering if they’re going to have jobs in a few months, while some of us lucky enough to be employed at the two best airlines in the world right now are complaining about wearing a mask. That’s about as clueless as it gets right there.

That is way too much of a common sense and selfless post. Are you sure you’re an airline pilot?

Say a P3 is booked EWR-STN or whatever long segment. And also let’s say the P3 JS only has an N95 mask. Does anyone believe it is healthy, comfortable, practical, etc to wear a tight fitting N95 mask for 8+ hours? That is just not realistic.

I wear my mask but I’m convinced that if I’m exposed it’ll be BECAUSE of the mask. My sister works in an emergency room and deals with wuhan-flu, the non-politically-correct but accurate name of the virus, on a daily basis.
She can’t believe we get to use the same mask over and over again on an entire trip! She calls it ‘stupid and borderline criminal’.
She told me to either disinfect it every single day, ideally several times a day (but then I’m exposing my lungs to the strong chemical irritants in the disinfectant) or to toss it. She said we’re better off not wearing it because each time we take it off and then put it back on our faces we’re spreading the virus from the outside part of the mask to our faces and our fingers, etc, etc.. To use the same mask on an 11-day trip just doesn’t make sense and she’s strongly discouraged me from doing that. She gave me several extra masks but how many guys/gals have access to extra masks?
So yes, using the same mask over and over again is extremely risky ...BUT at least I know I’m making others feel more comfortable, it’s the placebo effect.. :-/

FYI - Several pilots are being rerouted home right at this moment due to being exposed. (If you are, you’ve probably been notified already..)

Honestly, I find this whole mask thing to be much ado about nothing. There’s a lot of battles out there worth getting worked up over. This ain’t one of them.

Mutual respect is the framework of the IPA’s unity.

But if (for example) there are two jumpers on a MD and the middle JS is open so the Captain says “you don’t have to wear a mask if you don’t want to” since social distancing can be maintained per the FOIB, I’d hope one JS wouldn’t get bent about that if the other JS unmasked.
You’ve tried it out? Experimented with it on the flight deck using the different masks? Might want to try before coming to a conclusion.
You’re openly suggesting we defy this policy and then encouraging self censorship???
