Anc

Good afternoon,

trying to look at flights to ANC. I looked on the jumpseat page, and it looks like there are currently direct flights to and from SDF. The flight doesn’t appear to run in August.

planning to leave ATL. Delta has 1 direct per day, just trying to plan ahead, and think about backups.... since mother D is doing a 60% cap.

thanks

Just hasn't been loaded yet by the company. There are probably 3 or 4 flights a night from SDF, one from RFD, one from ONT, and maybe something from JFK or EWR. In a week or so when or schedule bids/vto lines are all awarded they should appear

Not sure if you’re at brown but be aware our ANC flights are frequently overbooked and quite often the company will bump you at the very last minute. A large percentage of our ANC based pilots buy airline tickets to/from ANC.

Also, in the next few weeks the jumpseat availability to/from Anchorage might get even more unpredictable. Our 747 sim in ANC will be going down for MX for at least 3 months. The company will have to shuffle our instructors and students to/from SDF (and maybe MIA). They’ll probably use our company jumpseats even more than they already are as there are very few commercial flights the company may use.

You’ll probably make your flight but you need to have a backup, or two.. good luck to you.

You might want to check with Atlas/Polar, I think there’s daily ANC flights from CVG

Anyone here made the move up to ANC? If so could you recommend any decent quiet areas for renting. (If even possible on first year pay!)

Decent and quiet on first year pay....the valley (Palmer and Wasilla). That's what we had to do year one. We liked it and stayed out here.

It was explained to me that while CVG on Kalitta or Atlas/Polar seems like a great idea, you will get in trouble if you don't make your commute, whereas if you use a brown tail, you're covered. I stand open to correction by the more experienced, just what I've heard.

Well, sort of.

While on probation - they don’t care how you commute - if you don’t make it to work you’re in trouble, ups flight or not.

Off probation, yes, you’re “covered” if you fly on brown tail (hate the term) because after all you flew on your own airline. However, if you have several non-ups backups you’ll be ok too.

Have several friends who’ve commuted on pax and non-ups cargo airlines throughout the years. A few of them have missed work because they never made it to ANC. The company didn’t like it and never will. Period! ..but since they had several backups, which fell through, they never went after them.

Having said that, if this were to become a routine occurrence I’d expect them to end up in a termination hearing at some point.

First year you want something close to the airport with easy to/from transportation. A year later you’ll know which areas you like and if you want to rent, buy or maybe stick to hotel rentals.
