Is Carol robbing Peter to pay Paul at UPS?

“...Metzler of LSO, citing Tomé’s pledge to make UPS “better, not bigger,” said the mantra may one day be “looked back upon like burning the furniture to keep warm instead of getting a bigger furnace.”

Any water cooler talk on if/when the hiring window might reopen? Had my app all queued up when they closed it.

I have no inside knowledge but If I had to guess it wouldn’t be until next year. Apparently they got over 2500 apps this year and best case we hire another 150-175.

We had 28 scheduled to retire in 2021 we had 59 in the first 3 months, would not be surprised to see between 150-200
actually retire
these classes of 25 will not keep up

Pretty sure with Carol at the helm you aren't going to see new hire classes that keep up with retirements.

Once the boxes stop moving, then you will see an increase in hiring! Can't say we didn't see it coming or nobody told them.

Any guesses for the average retirement age for 2020 and 2021 so far?

The plug on the 1 Jan 21 seniority list was #3030, and moved up 39 numbers as of the 1 Apr 21 seniority list; the 1 Apr 21 plug was #3081.

Relative Seniority on the FO side has been good for the first few years on property, but seems to stagnate after that. In my perception, that’s a result of the large number of very senior FOs bypassing upgrade and the number of upgrades not keeping up with retirement numbers and fleet growth. The sheer volume of retirements should break this logjam wide open over the next few years (1994 hires hit 30 years soon and there were almost 600 of them). I concur with the earlier comment that average age is around 62 at retirement. There are guys going prior to 60 and guys going until they age out, but both are the exception.
