Commuting may also work out in your favor if you live in a hub city of a major airline. If you fly a bunch of trips that begin or end with commercial travel, you may be able to get home in 1 leg instead of 2 or 3 going back to SDF. It just depends on what works for you and your family, and the type of trips you want to fly.

The airline needs commuters and locals to operate so there’s a for for all. But not all commutes are equal. Did a one leg commute for awhile and it wasn’t too bad but there are some who commute fairly far. Having family nearby helps too.

It comes down to what is important for the person. There is no right or wrong answer.

Anyone know what the new hire training pay is for UPS and how long it takes to get through indoc/type rating?

1) Come Sept., it’ll be 4,043.25 pre tax per 28 days

2) Depends on the fleet and/or the log jam in training; short 8 weeks, long 12+...

3) I wouldn’t let this detour you from working here.

I’ve been keeping up with this forum for a long time. Finally got the call and will start in September! Sounds like it’ll be the bus or 75 since it’s a Wednesday start. What A/C is the fastest way to getting a line? From what I understand UPS is a bit different as reserve can go senior depending on the time of the year. Originally would’ve dreamed of getting ONT being a west coast commuter but I’ve been reading that crash pads are hard to come by.

Either the Bus or 75 domestic will have relatively quick seniority progression. What that seniority buys may vary. 75 ONT would probably have even faster progression, but there is a reason for that. Additionally, none of those fleets fly international outside of Canada and Mexico. Reserve can go super senior or very junior depending on if it’s a good deal. As a junior guy, VTO and VTOR lines will be your best shot at the “good” deals.

Congrats and welcome onboard!

As far as ONT crashpads - there aren’t as many as in SDF or other gateways BUT all you need is a couple of guys/gals to start a new one. It’s been a while but that’s what we did when I was based there.
