Default New Hire Information

What is UPS like? What are schedules like? Reserve? Are new hires getting SDF? What aircraft is most junior? Any other information for new hires that they should know.

UPS is a trucking company.
Schedules revolve around the sort domestically and intra-Europe. Intra-Asia is a bit different, but my fleet rarely does it and I normally avoid Asia. Long haul international is exactly what it sounds like with lots of 24 hour layovers. Reserve varies dramatically by fleet. Don’t worry, you probably won’t be holding it for a while. New hires get some of everything except SDF 74. The bottom of every fleet (except SDF 74) is roughly equally junior. All fleets pay the same which makes the dynamics of fleet bidding different than most other companies. People bid aircraft based off of desired schedules. Desirable schedules vary due to individual preferences, phase of life, etc. You won’t make more somewhere else if you are chasing money, but you can also do very well just working min guarantee (81+ credit hours per calendar month). Finally, do your own due diligence and dig through the threads. There are better answers to your questions already written.

Your restraint and professionalism is admirable, considering there are probably hundreds of posts addressing the op ed questions. How lazy do you have to be to start yet another thread regarding a subject which has been beaten to death dozens and dozens of times.

Live in domicile. Commuting is bad enough but our junior schedules will make your life pretty rough. Prepare to be tired all the time. After year 1 you will not mind as much but will still be tired. Again, move to domicile. Good luck

Cmon now. Not sure about lazy..
If you notice the OP is a “newhire” which means he/she is totally new to APC.

Mustang - C2078 is correct - the same questions are being asked every 3-5 months or so. Do a search and you’ll find a plethora of threads which might answer some, if not most of your questions.

UPS is great but whatever you do STAY CLEAR of the very controversial ‘management pilot’ position. (search under NURP - non-union replacement pilot)

Always an idiot who thinks doing a little research, putting in a little effort, thinks the guy who calls this out is an idiot…

Agreed, search function is your friend. I’ve done a ton of over-detailed posts about this joint over the last bunch of years so try a search of posts by user. Include FTv2 and FTFF.

There’s also been tons of debate about commuting v living in domicile. I’m a big proponent of commuting in general - IMveryHO, I think Louisville sucks. As a newhire based in SDF you can easily commute from ATL, ORD, NYC, PHL, DFW, NorthEast, ONT. A little less easy would be places such as SEA, SLC, DEN, Florida. Regardless, it doesn’t take a lot of seniority to hold or tweak yourself into a commutable line. With a little more seniority you can commute from most places.

You'll never have a better QOL than living in domicile. It opens up a bunch more bidding options and being able to drive home after a trip is very nice. Commuting is tiring in my opinion but many folks choose to do so.

QOL is relative. My family and I would be miserable in Louisville regardless of how good my schedule could be. Commuting allows us to live in a place with awesome schools and lifestyle = best QOL, for us.
