Default Question:

This thread was extremely informative...thanks to all who contributed. I'm joining the ranks of "app went active locked." So it's a positive start. Nov-ish availability date...

Question: What does "z" flying mean? what is "757 Z out of SFD" mean?? Thanks.

757 (includes 767) has 2 "domiciles" in SDF (Louisville)

757 - domestic - includes Canada/Mexico
757Z - international - rest of the world. There are domestic trips on some of these lines.

Seriously though, new folks - not easy to do but yes, even the new folks please start saving money. The teamster strike will probably happen and yes, we WILL honor it.

So...as a potential new hire (*hopefully*)...what does this mean? I understand I wouldn't be getting paid, but what about my 1yr probation period. Am I "punished" by the company for not working? Does everybody stop working until the company breaks and there is a compromise met? Sorry, I don't know what I don't know...military noob making the transition.

As a new hire on probation the company will probably officially fire you. The IPA will then say we aren’t returning to work if the probies don’t come back too. The company will “cave” and you will come back with everyone else.

Long story short, scabs in the workplace are an endless source of labor problems. A few probationary pilots crossing the picket line won’t keep the operation running, but would create a years long headache for management. The company would rather you honor the picket line and then we can all get back to work once the Teamsters get a contract.

When is the earliest a Teamster strike could happen? I’m in the upcoming July class so hopefully I can at least make it off probation before it kicks off.

Historically how long have these things lasted?

Teamsters National Master Agreement expires 31Jul23.

The last Teamsters strike of UPS was 1997. It lasted 16 days. No probationary IPA pilots crossed Teamster lines, none lost their job.
