Swimming too long

The guy is just venting.

This profession, in terms of hiring, is feast or famine. Timing is everything. Best way to screw up your timing is not having a competitive resume when you need it. Best way to not have a competitive resume is to stagnate or make lateral moves.

Statists are clear and have a strong historical trend - we don’t hire many regional or corporate guys. We hire heavy international guys and mil (and most of those are Air Force). Want to come here, those are your best odds. ACMI ain’t hiring then time to look overseas.

AFA “typing things on here,” goes, if you read what I wrote, it’s more about providing info for people deciding IF they want or should come here. However, the elements of being hired and getting a class date haven’t changed: higher total and PIC time, evidence of grit / being a hard worker (read - not stagnating), a true desire to want to fly for UPS, and either a loaded resume at the regionals / corporate (instructor, higher lever leadership roles, etc), or heavy intl experience. Suggesting a guy simply, “stay relevant,” is woefully out of touch IMHO.

Thank you. Didn't know about planejobs either. I really can't stand people who expect things to be given to them, just feel out of my element nearing "underemployment". If delivering for UPS as a seasonal driver helps me get a call early, or if I can manage a job flying anything at all until hiring improves I will. I've never known anything with wings, wheels, fins, or jets that I can't pilot. I love it all, and I love adventure. I get along with everyone and won't rule anything out. Thanks again.

PM me. Then remind me to check PMs

I told them what was available; a night piston freight run. Every one of them passed, many scoffed at the idea. They'd tell me that kind of work was a little beneath them. It wasn't long before they were back, hat in hand, asking if the job was still there. It was not.

When you can't find what you want, you find what you can. You work that until you find what you want. Job sites like planejobs a constantly showing more jobs. It costs a few dollars to subscribe to most of them, and a lot of it is government, utility, charter, etc. But it's a job. Not every job in the industry is with an airline. When you can't find what you want, find what you can.

Doesn't mean you stop pursuing what you want...but at least you get to eat, and it's a lot easier to get a job, when you have a job, current, operating, and ready. Taking what you can doesn't negate floating in the pool for what you want. Think about it. There are jobs out there. A lot of them, actually.

Where were you furloughed from in 2009?

Guy will write a War and Peace worth of unsolicited advice, but dollars will get you donuts he won't tell you where he worked.

It would be enlightening to say the least if he was truthful about the circumstances. Maybe a little less "War and Peace" advice.

UPS forums here are literally all about what it’s like to work at UPS and how to get hired so guy is well within his lane.

Who cares where he worked, do you not get the point?

I mean I think I get it. There's no need for a pursefight, I (and apparently a few others) just think some rando with no connection to brown showing up to write four paragraphs scolding some poor guy for being upset that he isn't getting a class date smacks of this not *really* being about helping anyone. This popping up in random conversations to put his critical oar in the water is sort of this guy's MO, and it usually ends up a lot like this time. He's like a troll with ADHD and a Thesaurus.

That's the kicker right there, much more to the story.

One imagines. But I'm happy to leave at just "I hope Brokenbus gets a call". God knows, the guy clearly wants to work here, and can't be dissuaded by reason. I don't picture him leaving, even as the plug on the 75, doing four legs every night for a week, eating dogfood. He'll fit right in with the rest of us broken toys!
