Received updated confirmation for class with new hotel. Sounds like Courtyard by Marriott. Anyone recieve this email as well?

3downandchecked 01-14-2017 07:47 PM

I got the same letter with the above hotel info--looking forward to starting on the 30th.

mountaineerman 01-15-2017 04:40 AM

Sounds good. Cant wait for Jan 30th. I was just wondering if we were only class over there, its always nice to talk and interact with other classes. Anyone else in 30th class or know others who are? Maybe we can do something night before like other class? Just a thought

You're welcome to look us up at the CW suites to get gouge on what to expect and study habit techniques. By the way, outstanding training syllabus.

3downandchecked 01-15-2017 06:39 AM

I'd love to meet up the night before for dinner. I'll PM you my number.

FOrtunate 01-16-2017 04:58 AM

F18Rhino 01-25-2017 05:36 AM

I just confirmed my class seat for the 30th. See everyone there!

CinderellaStory 01-25-2017 11:52 PM

I got the call last Monday! See you all at the Marriott.

FTFF 01-26-2017 09:43 AM

New Hires: Don't forget to make sure they got your hotel rewards account info for your stay.

F18Rhino 01-26-2017 03:35 PM

If anyone from the group would like to meet in the evening the night before class and grab some dinner, we could meet in the lobby at 6:00pm.

If they give you stay credits, you'll go from zero to Gold easily.

FTFF 01-27-2017 03:26 AM

They should. It's not like the bookings for operating crews where confirmation isn't guaranteed.

True...but Marriott (and Hilton, for that matter) has gotten a LOT more stingy lately at granting stay credits for rooms booked under a substantially discounted negotiated rate.

At one time, UPS would assign the Atlas Capt with a B747 type rating to the domestic Airbus fleet.

:D

Contract 2016 changed the way new hires receive seat assignments. It is now done by bidding within the class. Oldest is the most senior, last 4 of SS# is the tie breaker (yes, its been used).

So its really up to the class breakdown and ages ;)

Pretty easy for someone to figure out who 550 is so I'd zip it if I were him, but what did you hear?

So for those of you in recent classes - how well would a 49+ year old dude fare when it comes to bidding within the class?

At my first airline I thought seniority by age was a dumb idea - but as I get older I am beginning to recognize it for the genius it is. ; )

easyflying 01-29-2017 07:43 AM

Yes they always work that way. I have 10 yrs experience on 747 and I got MD11. Welcome to Big Brown, like any other airline out there nothing makes sense, so don't try to figure it out, just enjoy the brown atm and the people.

In 2007, If I recall correctly, a 50 year old was #1 in my class. I think I was # 5 at 40.

In 2017 you would probably be pretty senior as well.

Good Luck !

Toward the top... I'd bet top 5.

Likeabat 01-29-2017 11:18 AM

Good to hear - one of the advantages of growing old. Actually it is the only advantage I can think of this far.

In last few years, UPS has hired effectively all backgrounds (Atlas enjoying lots pilots picked up, but regional, corporate, cargo, LCC, retired military, military, etc. Ages ranged form high twenties to 60 (1 person), low 30's to late 40's early 50's very common.

iPilot6 02-16-2017 08:07 PM

Did all of you get two weeks notice to your class? It looks like a few only got a week to a few days for the firm job offer...... could be wrong. Just curious!

Thanks!
