Default On File vs. Active

Anyone know if the status of the application will change on its own based on UPS's need at a given moment? Recently had a friend apply (A380 captain) and it shows on file to which he was unable to re-log back in to update. (locked out) While another friend with similar experience and background shows Active and updating is possible.

There's logic, then there's UPS logic.

That was my experience a couple years ago.

My initial application was "On File"; within a day or two of getting a third referral, the app went "Active".

So you think there are people there who watches the referrals coming in then manually manipulate the database to change status? Fair enough, but that doesn't explain why those without any referrals get an Active status immediately upon submitting the app.

Seems to be all random

No, I think there is some computerized "score" for each application, and Active or On File is a reflection of score.

I believe referrals can add enough points to tip one over to Active from On File automatically, and job fairs can serve the same purpose (I guess that is manual by HR but have no idea).

Hence the confusion since both guys have identical experiences and background.

I am guessing even if you have an "active" file you might or might not get an interview based on a computer score. How many guys have had active files in 2016 that never got an interview?

What I was told at the Dec 16 job fair (by two recruiters) was that if you can edit your application, then it has not been submitted. The problem I am having is that I can still edit my application even though it is indicating 100% complete. I have not seen any submit button anywhere. Any help, screen shots, etc. will be appreciated.

That's interesting, when I completed my application last month I never saw a "submit" button either. I answered each section and when I completed the "Application Agreement" section at the end it showed complete.

As of today my application, like yours, shows active and I can edit it. I do see at the top of the application it says "Your application is complete. If you wish to change any information, click on the links below to edit. Changes can be made up to the time of your scheduled meeting."

I have also tried different browsers and no difference with the application.

On file means: Your application has been accepted and is on file.
IOW "Don't call us, we'll call you... If ever"

Active means: You are in active consideration to be granted an interview.

I just logged in to UPS Jobs and this message came up, see below. I then went to my applications and saw the dreaded ON File...I'm planning to go to Vegas for the FAPA fair just for UPS. Now wondering if it's worth the trip./?

"Our system has retained the information you previously supplied. Your information, along with the information supplied by other job applicants, will be considered when UPS jobs become available. Thank you for continuing to consider UPS as an employer."
