Nah, I'm pretty sure you're good to go if just polish them a bit ;)

Which begs the question, have you guys ever followed this reg and actually taken off in an airplane that still had ice all over it that was just polished to adhere to the reg?

While stationed in Kef I worked the line running the deice trucks and I remember AC leaving with light to moderate frost but not necessarily iced. I can tell you though, the Germans were the most anal crews when it came to deicing. Depending on the aircraft, most US crews were a little more flexible, brave, or dumb (whatever floats your boat). I've seen icing that made the main mounts compress on P-3's :( Takes a long time and a lot of water to get those deiced....

When I was a P-3 Flight Engineer, I thought it took a lot of fluid to get her cleaned off, but nothing like deicing the "whale" (B-747)! I have to laugh when they bring out those little deice trucks.:D
