Cooling(none of the windows can be opened on the 74) and maybe getting rid of that brand new aircraft smell.

No, they are probably extended for the daily inspection here, lots of moving bits to inspect. It isn't uncommon to see the ailerons or elevator droop after shutdown due to loss of hydraulic pressure.

Thanks 11, I've only seen the front open once in SDF. Then again it is 3am and I can barely find my plane!

It's a pretty impressive sight. One does feel a bit like Jonah peering into the abyss.

It does beg the question though. Can you have both the Nose and the Main Deck Door open at the same time? One heck of a wind tunnel I would suspect. I'll have to check that out, unless one of y'all already know.
