Make the trip for sure. Go online and get a permit, as they only allow 100 a day during the summer. It's a long day hike, but not terribly technical. The last mile or so is in DEEP ash and is a pain, but it's worth the view!

I don't believe so, but I'm not sure. It's been pretty quiet lately from what I can see.

The Mt. Rainier trip is on my list of things to do!

You're right about the amazing opportunities here in the Seattle area. Adams, Hood, St. Helen's, of course Rainier. Then you have the entire Olympic range!

Sadly it officially stopped spitting ash back in January. Too bad, there will be no more skywest pilots reporting "Hey center did any one report the fire on the top of this mountain? There doesn't seem to be anything to burn but there’s a lot of smoke up there."
