Great shots! And congrats for kiddo #1

Razor 11-02-2008 06:51 AM

Thanks guys. Glad you like them.

Flying the U-2 and the T-38 was a lot of fun. A great bunch of guys to work with.

Planespotta 11-02-2008 08:47 AM

So, what's your record time to FL300 ;)
Awesome shots of an incredible airplane and a guy lucky enough to have flown it.

Albief15 11-04-2008 07:12 AM

Didn't Maverick shoot one of those down in Top Gun?

HercDriver130 11-04-2008 01:00 PM

Damn.... now that brings back some memories.... So you flew the Dragon Lady..... flew some support missions in Europe for those bubba's damn nice bunch of guys. Actually had a silver "Dragon Lady" coin from a U-2 det we supported.... unfortunately another "Lady" called Katrina washed it away...

Razor 11-05-2008 01:53 PM

I've seen a lot of money spent to fly a roll of U-2 film out for development. I was at a location once that had very spotty comm. They flew in an airplane with one airman and a portable satellite comm system to get us back up and running. It was pretty impressive.

Sorry about the loss of your coin HercDriver.

Those look like MiGs!:p

AZFlyer 11-06-2008 10:47 AM

Charlie: Excuse me, Lieutenant. Is there something wrong?
Maverick: Yes ma'am, the data on the MiG is inaccurate.
Charlie: How's that, Lieutenant?
Maverick: Well, I just happened to see a MiG 28 do a...
Goose: We!
Maverick: Uh, sorry Goose. WE happened to see a MiG 28 do a 4g negative dive.
Charlie: Where did you see this?
Maverick: Uh, that's classified.
Charlie: It's what?
Maverick: It's classified. I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you.

AZFlyer 11-06-2008 10:53 AM

Charlie: So lieutenant, where exactly were you?
Maverick: Well, we...
Goose: Thank you.
Maverick: Started up on a 6, when he pulled from the clouds, and then I moved in above him.
Charlie: Well, if you were directly above him, how could you see him?
Maverick: Because I was inverted.
Iceman: [coughs whilst saying] Bull****.
Goose: No he was man, it was a really great move. He was inverted.
Charlie: You were in a 4g inverted dive with a MiG28?
Maverick: Yes ma'am.
Charlie: At what range?
Maverick: Um, about 2 meters.
Goose: It was actually about 1 and a half I think. It was 1 and a half, I've got a great Polaroid of it, and he's right there, must be 1 and a half.
Maverick: Was a nice picture.
Goose: Thanks.
Charlie: Eh lieutenant, what were you doing there?
Goose: Communicating.
Maverick: Communicating. Keeping up foriegn relations. You know, giving him the bird!
Goose: [Charlie looks puzzled, so Goose clarifies] You know, the finger
[gestures apprpriately]
Charlie: Yes, I know the finger, Goose.
Goose: I-I'm sorry, I hate it when it does that, I'm sorry. Excuse me.

Ok, it's starting to get a little gay in here now...

FYI, if you get an AF fighter slot, don't quote Top Gun unless ragging on a Navy pilot in your presence.

Yes - you'll look MUCH cooler if you quote Iron Eagle or Stealth

And I was planning on opening with a Top Gun monologue at the interview, too....

I can't believe you guys ruined my T-38 thread with a bunch of Top Gun quotes! Everybody knows the "MiG-28s" in Top Gun were really F-5s. Come On...

Who's the Top Gun nerd now!?! :D

Waldo11 11-07-2008 03:43 AM

Close to 2000 hrs in that old a model 38. Still my favorite jet.

Skyone 11-07-2008 06:11 AM

Let's not jump down the Top Gun nerd too fast. That movie did, er, "more" for Naval Aviators than...well, you get the point. Revitalized an old sleepy O'club called Oceana. Hell, even the Langely guys would DRIVE over in their zoom bags to partake of the talent at Oceana. We won't even go into what it was like at Miramar and MCRuD (where some of the movie was shot). The cars would be lined up out the front gate of Oceana waiting to get into the club.

With the Reagan buildup and the movie, signs around Norfolk (Dogs and sailors keep of the lawn) weren't seen anymore. Life was good even for prop pilots.
