Default Redoubt Erupting 3-31-09

Scooting underneath.

I estimated the top of the plume @ 14,000 with visible ash fall traveling in a northeast direction for 15 miles. All the snow in the vicinity is grayish.

Slipping Past

Continuous emissions of steam, volcanic gases, and minor amounts of ash continue at Redoubt Volcano, and have been visible in the Redoubt Hut web camera images throughout the day. These emissions have been generally been at low altitudes (less than 15,000 feet above sea level), but occasionally rise as high as 25,000 feet above sea level. Satellite images from this morning show a broad layer of volcanic haze extending east of the volcano over the Kenai Peninsula, the Anchorage Bowl, and the Matanuska-Susitna Valley. Satellite images from last night show a thermal anomaly at the vent and are possibly due to the extrusion of a lava dome in the summit crater. AVO field crews are attempting to make direct observations of the volcano today. Seismicity consists of volcanic tremor and occasional discrete earthquakes.

You really take some beautiful shots. Are the -6 wings heated?

Stretch already answered your question. I'll just had a bit. The leading edges are heated by 3 airfoil heaters. Two of those heaters are buried in the leading edges of the wing outboard of 1 and 4, the third heater is located in the tail cone.

FD, thanks for those. Your shots are excellent on a number of levels. I always enjoy opening them because they show a world beyond the ordinary. Keep it up!

Oh ya. FE, FO, 1st Rating. Didn't fly the line in the Left seat tho. I was on the 737 at the time. Great airplane.....the DC-6/7. Flew Connies too, that I liked better, but never got a rating in it.

Flying through it is the problem.
