Yep. Photo recce. The Reporter was a variant of the P-61 (pursuit if one can call a big twin engine machine like the black widow a pursuit). And as long as we are not talking about Navy aircraft.

The P-38 in its recce version was the F-4 and later the F-5.

and then you had this recce beauty, the XF-12 Republic Rainbow.

Take the engines off this thing and it's a sailplane (big one).

Crash And Burn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

USMCFLYR 04-03-2010 10:30 AM

Of course that is just one picture, but I've seen others in the past. It does rank up there with one of the more drastic changes in appearances in only a little over 20 years. I guess Tom's plastic surgeons have done a better job!

USMCFLYR

OK - back to speaking of the F-15E. I remember sitting behind them in the pits at Al Jaber during OIF - and that was only half their load!

For any former Strike Eagle pilots - do you remember a LtCol WSO being killed after ejection during 'unauthorized' (?) BFM in the mid-late '90s?

The only crash I can think of off hand where the WSO morted and the pilot didn't is this one:

Dennis M. White, Captain, United States Air Force
