It was evaluated, but at that time it was called the XV-6A "Kestrel".

The AF also evaluated the F-14. Chappie flew it.

This display is located over at the annex on WPAFB. There are two hangars; one with presidential aircraft (to include SAM 26000) and the other is filled with experimental aircraft. In the future, these aircraft will be moved to the new wing that begins construction shortly adding a fourth hangar to the main museum...

Had three Kestrel aircraft allocated after the evaluation at West Raynham and also acquired the three allocated to Germany. Four later transferred to the United States Air Force and two to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration).[33]
