I laugh at people who say "you are an idiot for not having apps out". They do not know me, the flying I want to do or what sort of life I WANT.

Money...money is a curious thing. I quit chasing it years ago. I know my worth as a pilot and will fight for it. What I will not do is put money in front my personal happiness. Would I like to make 250K a year working 5 months out of the year, sure. Am I willing to sit in a JS for a 4 hour flight to JFK the night before my flight to make it? No. Am I willing to be a part of the poor service the airlines are known for? No. Am I willing to be number 12657 out of 13000? No. Am I willing to move to chase airframes or seats? Hell effing no!

If you are willing to do all those things for money, good for you. There are others out there who do all sorts of things for more money!
People that chase all of those things that you will not do hurt the job! If less people were willing to jump through their butt for the many things you or I will not do we would see changes! My friends that are not pilots think that some of the crap some pilots are willing to do for an airline are ridiculous!! People we have a great skill set that takes years to get. Don't bend over for management. I know for a fact that any kid fresh outta college never flown anything bigger than a light twin would love to have my job flying a 737, and would do it for free!! Management knows it to..

I have the pleasure to know the pilot this thread is about. He is a member of APC as well. I am one of the last guys to engage in gratuitous crap talking and aggravated, outlandish talk. Also, I really hate the NetJets echo chamber that can occur (yes I am a NetJets pilot so don't jump all over me), however I don't think there is anything wrong with acknowledging the multitude of issues with our industry as a whole, to the flying public. They deserve to know, and we owe it to ourselves, and the flying public to remain informed. I find it more unprofessional when I see a pilot that is so thankful to be treated like garbage by their employers. I have people that I call friends that work in various parts of aviation that have no backbone, and think there is nothing wrong with poverty wages, 24/7 on call, flying broken airplanes, or taking concessions during a record economy. The pilot in question cares about his rights as an employee, and cares about QOL, pay, benefits, and setting a high standard for his fellow pilot. There is NOTHING wrong when asked, to tell somebody the reality we face in aviation. Sometimes the guy in 16B is the only way we can get the real story out. Regionals complain to the media about how they are hurting for pilots, the freight industry just released an article that they cannot find pilots despite their high pay. Uhhh WHAT!?

People tend to forget that EVERYTHING we have achieved in aviation has been the hard work of pilots, flight attendants, and mechanics who stood up for what they believe in, and what they deserve. Do you think management just hands out the highest pay, best benefits, and the most days off on their own free will? Give me a break...
