Herb Kelleher
Gordan Bethune
Bob Crandall
All of these men have a career wide history of excellence in growing their respective companies.
Herb. Well everyone knows what Herb stands for and what he built.
Gordon pulled his out of the toilet and transformed it into a world class operation that anyone would be proud of.
Crandall. Damn sharp tough as nails boss who kept the company on track and out of the toilet to start with.

Alan Ross, CEO of the freight dog outfit I used to fly for,IFL group out of PTK,started with a handful of DC-3s,and a DC-4,grew the fleet into a bunch of CV-580s,5800s,and 727s, ran a by the book operation, great maintenance, great compensation for that level of the industry (some CV captains were making 100K,but had no life),used to match the first 5K each year in the 401K,and when you flew off to bigger, and brighter ops he gave you his blessing. Things may be different there now ,but when I was there 92-99,it was a great company to fly for.

Gordan was Continental. His book Worst to First tells his story, and how CAL was one of the worst to work for, and now one of the bestthanks to him and the employees.
Crandall was American. Don't know much about him

Wasn't Hughes moved around from place to place in a private jet towards the end of his life? THAT would have to be high on the list of strangest Corporate/135 jobs ever...
