Hello cesnacaptn,

If you are trying to drop the first or last leg do you just put it up for drop and hope that someone who is commuting on that flight picks it up? Do you have the ability to look and see who is listed standby I.e. a fellow captain, first officer or whatever the case may be... and then contact them directly? Apparently JetBlue is able to do this.

At WestJet we can not see who is listed STBY or non rev. We just have to hope they see the drop and pick it up.

Do you use Flica as well?

We do not use flica. Our interface is called eMaestro and I believe it is a Jeppesen product.

We can only post trips or parts of trips on a bulletin board and hope someone will take it.

Can you see if another captain is listed on the flight? We do not have that option at WestJet.

At Southwest you can give away any leg or multiple legs to another individual that is willing to take them from you. First leg, last leg, 1st, 2nd, 3rd legs etc.

Hi Shoelu and thanks for your reply. Do you have the ability to see who is listed non rev to determine if someone is flying STBY who could take your last leg? What do you use for scheduling? I.e. at WestJet we use Flica.

Are you a commuter and if so, how often do you find yourself in this situation?

We can see if there's a jumpseater listed on the on non-rev list. Sometimes, we recognize the name as a fellow pilot we know. Other times, we just see them at the gate when we walk up or when they board the airplane. It's anything we can do in advance. It's normally a last-minute thing.

How about United Airlines, American, Skywest, EasyJet, American Eagle, Air Tran. How do you guys handle the last leg drop.

You are unable to see "who" is listed, only the number of employees listed as non-revs. If you are in the situation of trying to give away the last leg, the easiest solution is to ask the ops agent if there are any SWA jumpseaters traveling on the outbound flight. If there is an available pilot, I simply ask if they would like to fly the leg for pay. If they are game a call to scheduling with a request for a "jetway trade" takes place. Schedulers check the legalities and process the trade if both parties verbally agree.

SWA uses Crew Web Access.

I do commute and am occasionally able to drop the last leg or, even better, get paid for my commute.
