Blowing air from the rear of the gear and cooling the sensors but not the brakes was deemed a no no from the regulatory agencies.

Interesting to hear that. I believe I did find the fans placed behind the brakes recently in LAS, and sure enough we saw the temps rise rapidly after removal. I haven't seen any guidance saying they can't be placed there, but I'll be sure to look into it.

Yes, the air must be blown in metric units, or the brakes will refuse to accept it and cool off.

Negative. Less moving parts, less weight, less maintenance, and better means of extending the landing gear with the loss of Hydraulics.

Does the 737 have wheel well fire detection? I've tried to purge as much as I can out of my head of that hunk of junk.

I understand that there is a lot of weight on 4 wheel/tire assemblies which naturally heats up the brakes, but how is it any different from a 737? Particularly one of the bigger 737s like a -900ER? I'm just curious why Boeing doesn't have this option.
900ER has carbon brakes. You'll see "CARBON" on the gear door of said aircraft.

Hey, I'm still on the slug, and sometimes Have to hunt for the mixtures and mags. And yes it does have wheel well fire detection.
